In our home we had a Master bedroom light with a mind of its own turning off randomly. In addition, we had a burn mark on a kitchen outlet, an outside outlet that kept tripping and a garage light switch that was getting stuck. Called Matt at Hi-lite. He came within a couple of days to fix all of this. Very happy. My wife and I recommend this company highly.

Nest Thermostat was exhibiting erratic behaviour with my A/C unit whereby it was ramping up and down repeatedly. In doing some research, we found that the Nest thermostat requires the addition of a C-wire. Contacted Travis at Reliance Home Comfort as per the Nest website. Travis came and added the extra module with no issues. Nest thermostat and my HVAC system work great now.

Our lock set was failing very badly with lock stiffening over time and then a loose thumb press was threatening to fail ready to lock my wife and I out of our house. I called Michael ASAP. Came same day and replaced all hardware quickly. It looks great looking like a brand new door. Thank you Michael and son for your assistance as always. You saved us! They also do glass and screen repairs.

Needed new blinds for our master bedroom. Called Home Depot for a quote. Joyce came to the house and showed us some samples and gave us a quote which we found fairly reasonable. We also loved all the designs. A few days later, Leon arrived to do some final measurements and approx. one month later, we had the blinds installed. We are very happy with the product and would highly recommend Home Depot as a place to shop for blinds.

Old wooden fence had rotted. Called David to see what could be done. Built a log fence to replace the older one. Job took 2 days and it looks great!

Driveway was showing signs of wear and tear including sinking below the lip of the garage and cracking near the sidewalk. Some years ago, I sealed it and filled in cracks myself but even that was showing signs of wear. Called Wycliffe for an estimate. Carmello offered a great price and a pretty good detail of the scope of the work involved. Crew came during the dinner hour one day and ripped out the existing driveway and walkway. Crew came three weeks later to pave (with one day notice) and install the new stones that were delivered for the walkway. Everything was level and done accurately. Crew was great to talk to and answered questions. I would recommend staying in touch with them and making sure that things are scheduled as you wish but overall, my wife and I are happy with the work.

Old shingles were warping and there were holes in the old troughs. In addition, I asked for the trough to be re-routed so that the high roof wouldn't feed the porch roof but rather have 2 separate routes. Contacted and hired Avenue Road Roofing after receiving a total of 4 quotes on the job. Robert came over and provided the initial quote, contract, and company credentials. Barbara scheduled the work to be done. She was able to get my roof done by the crew on a Friday and troughs done on the following Monday. Both crews cleaned up the grounds following the work. All the work was inspected by Kas following the 2 jobs. Everything was done to specification. My wife and I couldn't be happier.

Had an existing light fixture that featured a motion and light sensor on it. Over the last several months, the light was not working at night at all. Several cracks have appeared on the sensor as well due to wear and UV exposure. We went out to Canadian Tire purchased a new fixture sans sensor and called Hi-Lite. Matthew came over with his co-worker (in not so great weather conditions) and removed and installed the new fixture on the scheduled date and time. They did a great job making sure it was straight and installed correctly. This was our third time using Hi-Lite and we continue to be impressed with their service and will continue to use them.

Old toilet in basement had an intermittent leak from the tank to the bowl. In addition, there were cracks in the tank to begin with when we bought the house. We ordered a new American Standard toilet from Home Depot, had it delivered to the house, and called Vlad at Express Rooter Plumbing to install it. He was meticulous about the install - everything from balancing to caulking. We will not hesitate to call Vlad again for future work at our home.

Intermittently, over the last couple of weeks, we'd turn the lights on in the kitchen and they would flicker on their own with an audible buzz emanating from the switch. This was of great concern to us. I bought the new hardware from Canadian Tire and contacted Hi-Lite Electric. Matthew and his brother came the following day after my initial call to replace the light switch. All is well now and we feel safe again in our kitchen. I took advantage of their $25 coupon as I had work completed previously with them.

Storm door needed to be opened. Wind blew it shut the other door and it was stuck. Charlie came over and using a crowbar was able to get the door open. Made some additional adjustments so that it wouldn't happen again. Door does need to be replaced but I was happy that Charlie made the door functional for the time being. $100 isn't much for a temporary fix.

Outdoor sensored light fixture needed replacing. I went to Canadian Tire to buy the fixture I liked and contacted HiLite Electric Inc. I found them to be very courteous over the phone and their $79 service/travel fee proved to be one of the lowest around. Matthew showed up in the desired appointment window time. He removed the unwanted fixture and installed the new one. He ensured that it sat balanced and that everything was up to code. He cleaned up afterwards and even though he didn't have a caulking gun in the truck, he left and came back to properly "seal the deal". I definitely would use this company again for my electrical needs.

Just wanted to provide a review for some recent work that Handyman Connection did for me on Thursday Aug 22, 2013. Ever since my wife and I moved into this home 7 years ago, this piece of tile was cracking. I really didn't know what to do. I consulted HomeStars to ask for assistance to only find that either the job was too small and was refused or other contractors just did not know what the solution was to this problem. Finally, I received a call from Handyman Connection who put me in touch with Mario. He discussed some options with my wife and we chose to replace it with something more durable - this piece of oak. Mario installed it and it is ready for me to stain it. The hard part now is deciding to stain it light to match the tiling in the veranda or to stain it dark matching the colour of the brick exterior of the house. Great job Mario and thank you Handyman Connection.

Our old furnace air cleaner broke and this left me with a 30 year old furnace that was going to basically break in no time whatsoever without an air cleaner and I wasn't going to throw any more money at it. Our A/C was also 30 years old so it was due to die. I got a bunch of quotes for the job and Husky Heating and A/C came in around $5500 plus taxes and got rave reviews on this website. Demitri provided the quote and workers Gary and Sergei showed up yesterday and did a fantastic job installing both and replacing the air cleaner with a filter rack so I can now use a conventional filter. They paid attention to every last detail. My only complaints was that the A/C could not be tested so I will have to ensure that all is well in the spring or I will call them back for tweaking and they did not wear booties over their boots so my wife and I had quite a cleanup job of snow and grit in the basement and first floor following the completion of the job but I suppose that I can give a mulligan or two since this was a essential job in the middle of winter. 8 out of 10 guys. Thanks!

I paid for 5 visits this summer season. Have received only 2 visits thus far for manual weed pulling and fertilizer. Chris has not returned my repeated phone calls and emails regarding when my next visit will be and also has not quoted me on the pruning of my lilac bushes. I am rather displeased right now.

Noticed that my door handle was loose. Called Michael and within a couple of days, he came over and discovered that the spring had broke in the handle. Asked me if I wanted to change out the whole lockset or just do the handle. I opted to just do the inside handle. Within a week, he had the handle loosely matching the existing colour. Great installation. They also fix window screens and repair glass - only locksmith I would consider.

Bruno from Direct Energy came on Dec. 29th to provide my annual furnace maintenance (part of the Heating Plus Protection Plan). He inspected and cleaned out the heat exchanger and oiled some of the old parts inside of it. The thing continues to work like a charm and I actually find the house a little warmer as a result. Thanks Bruno!

The same toilet that I wrote about in November began to flush and fill by itself particularly in the overnight hours (scary - could there be a ghost?). Called ExpressRooter back again. Vlad came to investigate and found that the flush valve had been installed incorrectly as the floater was hitting the chain from the flush lever. Moreover, the flapper was corroded. Vlad took the toilet apart, made the necessary adjustments, and replaced the flapper. I also showed him another toilet in the house that had lost its shut off handle. He replaced the entire shut off valve. Thank you Vlad and thank you ExpressRooter.

My dishwasher's silverware basket broke. Called Maytag for replacement. They quoted me $60.00. Called Southern Atlantic and they referred me to Reliable Parts Limited on Caledonia in Toronto. They told me that the old model of basket is no longer in production and there is a more durable replacement and the cost of it was $20.00. Having gone into this place, I am convinced that they have parts for everything. Check them out! I went to the one on Caledonia in Toronto but it looks like they have other locations as well!

There was a howling noise coming from one of my toilets. My dad had suggested turning on all the faucets in the house with the hope that it was just an air bubble in the system. This did not work; the noise persisted. I went into the toilet and noticed that when I touched the top of the ball and chain valve that the noise would stop. So I figured that if I adjusted the ball downward that maybe that would fix the problem. Well...the entire assembly broke off in my hand. I had to shut the water off in the house. To make a long story short, Brian at Express Rooter plumbing was fantastic. He replaced the valve and tossed in a new water supply line for the toilet. Thanks Brian...standby for more valves... I have 3 other toilets that are just as old as that 4th one you fixed.

Our laundry sink faucet started to leak. The problem was narrowed down to the seat in the faucet. Rob suggested replacing it. I also showed Rob our faucet in the basement kitchen and the fact that the cold water tap would no longer adjust the water pressure properly. Lo and behold, this was narrowed down to the seat again. Rob was great. The installs were very clean. My only complaint is the high cost of the replacement faucets but I can't do the work myself.

Our 26 year old furnace was showing its age by operating with multiple orange flames inside and what appeared to be soot in the filter. We signed up for Direct Energy Heating Plus programme entitling us to a maintenance visit. Bruno came to the house. He cleaned parts out in a bucket of water and cleaned out the burner. He oiled the fan and even cleaned the outside casing of the furnace. The furnace is good for another year and there are no more orange flames inside the unit...nice blue burning going on in there. The electronic filter and the humidifier also received clean bills of health. So did my wife and I. Thanks Bruno and thank you Direct Energy!!!

Once again, Magic Touch came to our rescue. Dryer lint was beginning to build around our existing dryer vent which was broken and had chicken wire around it. My wife learned that Magic Touch not only did fireplaces but ventilation too. I called Fred back to the house and he not only replaced the broken vent with a nice new one but vacuumed out the back of the dryer and the vent pipe. He showed up promptly at the scheduled time and we don't find them all that expensive. Thank you, Fred and Magic Touch!

My wife and I had insects coming out of our fireplace in the basement throughout the winter. I called Magic Touch. The guy came and was very clean, putting dropclothes in front of the fireplace and proceeded to vacuum it out. He went up to the roof and swept the chimney clean. We optionally decided to install a new chimney cover which closes off the top of it soundly not allowing drafts, pests, insects etc. from coming in. So far so good...no insects.

My kitchen sink's strainer and trap broke. I called Express Router...they said that their earliest appointment was the evening. When they couldn't make it, they called my wife twice to say they were sorry and would be there first thing the next morning. Robert came mid-morning as promised and pointed out that not only the strainer was broken but the trap adapter as well. He ensured that nothing else needed to be replaced. He was quick, he explained what he was doing, cleaned up and offered me $25 off my next service call.
