Washing machine

Terrible service company from my experience. We were told the fee to come out would be $80. Once the problem was figured out, that $80 would come off the quote for the actual repair should we agree to fix it. Guy came out and ran some diagnostics and told us it was a sensor and he could fix it now if we agree to the labour and part cost. We agreed to the $230 we were quoted. He did some work and the problem still was there. Then he says I’ll need $120 for the part and another $250 in labour. we told the guy to leave. I ordered the part myself and installed it. The problem was still there. Had I agreed I would have been in for $800 total and still have a broken washer!!!!
We bought a new washer the next day for $750.

Stay away from this company!!!!!!

Washer

Appliance Repairman are HUGE money grabbers who use underhanded tactics to take your money!! We had them come to our home 2 times with no work done, took our money and left us with a broken machine. The second visit the guy told me it was better to buy a new washer than to fix this one, as I pay him almost $400. I do not recommend this company to anyone. Find a better company, shop around.

Misdiagnosed Twice

I called Appliance Repairman after my 3yrs old Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator freezer worked perfect, but the fridge area kept loosing temperature rapidly. They told they were certified by Frigidaire, which turns to being so. In less than five minutes visit I was charged $361.60 + 1460.60 for a compressor. Two visits and was not able to repair my fridge. He did not reinstalled a part that removed because he couldn't remember how to replace it and premised to reinstall it when he came back to put in a new compressor. I spoke to their customer service after speaking Frigidaire that they misdiagnosed my fridge and if they could send someone else and they refused to. I made several calls to speak with a manager or owner and each time I was told that no one is available. Nor did they return the messages I left for them to call me. Got it repaired by a qualified appliance repair company for $237.30.

Dryer

Like most of the people in this post, I should have checked Homestars first. Told $80 for service call which would not be charged if repairs done. Tech came, looked at dryer for about 2 minutes then said $280 plus parts. Of course he told me this was a great dryer that is much better than new ones. Figured I would be out $80 anyway so I said go ahead. No more than 1 hour later, done. Parts for 2 rollers, $145. (Found you can buy them online for $15 each). Dryer does seem to be fixed but for another $50 probably would have been better to buy a new one. Also there is a video online that shows how to replace the rollers. Would not use these guys again. Repair should be dependent on how many hours not a flat fee.

Dishwasher leaking

Repairman says sensor is broken on water allowed in bottom of dishwasher. Replaced sensor for $280 THEN tells use the hose at back is broken so water will not drain properly. Finds out hose not available anymore so they can replace the entire inside of the dishwasher for another $600 and change. Finally called my old plumber to help. He said, 'that was an expensive lesson'....

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I have yet to meet a dishonest company bent on fleecing your money needlessly from you, well I can now cross that off my list. So, if you’re looking for reliable appliance repair service please be smarter than I was and look past Appliance Repairman, a.k.a. Appliance Repair Guys.

I approached them after my Whirlpool stackable washer & dryer stopped working and needed to be fixed fast. I am a quadriplegic and find it pretty much impossible to do laundry at a Laundromat, not to mention my wife already does more than enough care for me that I didn’t need to add to her extensive list. Anyways, they showed up a few days after my phone call, unlike their same day service quoted on the website, and reeled off a list of repairs needed.

After completing those jobs, I was informed our rubber mold seal needed replacing due to mold and would require a second person to accomplish so would have to make a second appointment. Fair enough. However, getting them to show up for the second appointment was a feat in itself. The first attempt failed due to the worker’s truck breaking down in the morning and there was no replacement; while for the second attempt only one worker showed even though it stated a two-man job on the work order. Upon the third visit the last job was successfully done (or so we thought) and the laundry catch up began. On our third load, there was a horrendous crashing noise, the machine started shaking across the floor making my wife stop the load midway to prevent the dryer from tipping off the washer. We contacted customer service to inform them about our predicament and were told someone would be out to assess the situation. The worker arrived, checked the washer for all of 30 seconds, and then kindly informed us a suspension spring had snapped which would require replacing. Even better was that it would be two weeks’ minimum for the part to arrive and would require two workers again. I kindly asked them to leave and not come back. The fun didn’t stop there.

So now we had to go out and purchase a new washer & dryer on top of disposing of the old. We bought the new pieces and a friend removed the old to give to a family that needed them and had the ability to finish fixing. However, upon getting the washer to his home, my buddy opened the washer and saw the drum just hanging with the supposed broken spring just sitting beside it. He quickly reattached the spring, straightened the rum and voila the washer ran fine. If a non-repairman can fix it in a few minutes with no hardship, what were the Appliance Repairman workers really doing other than ripping me off with bogus work orders?

We contacted customer service to express our displeasure with the service received, as well as the extortionist costs we paid and my wife was told we’d receive a call back the next day. The call came and we were offered $50 which made us laugh and asked for a better deal. We were put on hold and were offered $60 when the call taker returned. Upon our response of, “Really? May we speak to your superior?” we were answered with a hang up. Save your mentality, your money and your peace of mind by steering very far away from Appliance Repairman. And if you think this is just one instance, check here https://homestars.com/companies/2814989-appliance-repair-guys. Be smart and do not use this company!

Appliance Repair

This is a fraud ring. They sucker you in with an $80 review of your problem. Then they do about $300-400 in unnecessary checks and cleanings, so that a basic repair becomes the cost of a new appliance. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID at all costs.

over the range microwave

Don't be fooled by these guys. the $80 doesn't get you anything. I called because my microwave won't heat food. they came in put a glass of water in the microwave and told me the problem with the microwave is that it doesn't heat food.....they offered to do diagnostics for $280. if they could fix it with parts from their truck it would approx $65 for parts. if it was anything else it would have to be ordered and would be more than that. I clarified that the $80 got me nothing. Yup. The $28o yielded no results either. Told me it was the magnetron which would cost an extra $545 (the microwave didn't even cost that much). found the part online for less than $100. Like the other reviews; shame on me; I didn't check the reviews before and now I see similar stories. I've paid the $280 and I still have a broken microwave.

Appliance Repair

Our dishwasher door wouldn't open . I asked Appliance repair guys to come out and repair the dishwasher and to look at replacing the toggle switch in the fridge. The technician was late, which I could understand, opened the dishwasher door. He then said he couldn't get pricing to quote for a repair, charged me $80.00 for the call out and would then deduct this from the final repair. I waited a week and still didn't get a quote. Phoned and was hurriedly told they would see to it even though the lady on the phone didn't confirm any details. I am still waiting. $80 to open a dishwasher door, nice . Seems we were blessed to get off this lightly

Appliance repair

Stay away from this company. I wish I had read the reviews from here beforehand.

I called for repair service and was told on the phone that a person would show up at a given time. The visit would cost $80 and the person would diagnose the problem and let me know the cost to repair.

I said I had a Whirlpool washing machine that didn't drain. It was also making a weird noise when turned on and made a burning smell, but I didn't mention that.

I also said I had an oven who's broiler wasn't turning on. I didn't know the make (I was at work), but I told them I thought it was Electrolux.

The repair guy showed up. So I have to give the company 1 star. Everything else was down hill from there.

1. First, he spent 1 minute with my washing machine (didn't try various cycles or cycle changes) and said it wasn't draining and it would cost $280 to fix plus parts. He said he had 80% of the parts in his car.

Okay, I said. How much do the parts cost. He couldn't tell me. He said in order to quote the price he would have to order the part. I asked why he had to order the part if he had it in his car? He said he doesn't know the model number of the washing machine so he can't confirm he has that specific part.

I then told him I didn't think he looked at the washing machine well enough to know what was wrong. He scoffed. I said the washer makes a weird sound when spinning and doesn't spin fast. He turned the cycle to spin. It spun, albeit slowly, with the weird noise. He turns back to me and said, it's spinning. I explained that it doesn't normally spin like this. He said it's all related to the draining like he said in the first place. $280 plus parts but he can't tell me how much those parts will cost.

Hmmm. Okay, let's see if you can help with the oven.

He goes to the oven and immediately opens the back. He doesn't turn the oven on to test the broiler. He doesn't look inside the oven for signs of physical damage. He just opens the back and starts tinkering. And he says he knows what's wrong. The signal isn't going to the control board. It's also a $280 job plus parts. If I get both fixed then the second job is reduced to $220.

Okay, how much are the parts for this oven? Again, he says, I can't say. There are too many possible parts that may need replacing. Really, I respond. Can you just tell me the most expensive part so I can determine if it's worth it? No. I'd have to order the part. Electrolux has a lot of components.

This is where my wife chimes in. Our oven isn't Electrolux. Yes it is, he replies. My wife points to the front of the oven, then why does it have a GE badge? Oh, because He and Electrolux are the same company.

So you want me to commit to $500 in labour plus unknown parts costs? You don't even seem to know what's wrong with the oven.

He shakes his head. Yes I do. I just told you the control board isn't getting signal.

Sorry man, I'm not going to commit to that. So I pay him the $80 and he leaves. I then Google what an Electrolux oven looks like and it doesn't have the GE badge. He was just relying on what I reported without verifying it himself.

Now I'm upset.

I call the company to complain. I say the repair guy didn't diagnose anything. He just repeated what I reported and wanted me to commit to $500 in labour plus parts with no estime on the parts cost.

The manager I spoke to said the $80 is not to diagnose problems. It's to get someone to your house. I said that's not what I was told by the phone dispatcher or the repair guy. The manager said it sounds like miscommunication.

Obviously nothing will come of this.

As for the epilogue, another repair company came by and fixed both appliances with parts for $350+HST.

And in doing so, noticed the thermostat in the oven was disconnected. So had we tried to bake (as opposed to broil) the oven would not have worked. All works now. I suppose that was the Appliance Repair Guys parting gift to me.

Stay away.
