Run away from this company!

Same story as all the other reviews. Make no mistake. This company is out to rip you off. If you are a victim and you want to get your money back they will respond to a threat to file a report with Consumer Protection Ontario. Very misleading, avoid this company.

You get told that the technician will appear for $80.00. Once he arrives he says for him to do anything to find out what the problem is will require a payment of $280. Once the diagnosis is ended, you are told a new pump will cost another $300.00! Actual work was about 40 minutes. Should have cut my losses at $80.00. Also should have been told that minimum cost will be $280.00 Very bad! Avoid!

I decided to follow the advice found on ApplianceRepairGuys.org, a website set up by another victim of this company. He suggested filing a consumer complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario. Wisely, ApplianceRepairman.ca will respond once you set the ball in motion here because they do not want to be shut down.

Before filing a complaint you must write a letter to the company. Email the letter to info@appliancerepairman.ca and in the subject line write: Complaint about service done: CONSUMER PROTECTION ONTARIO (this will get their attention). Note that you don’t actually have to file a complaint just yet. Write the letter first and send it off, then wait to see if the company responds.

In your letter to the company, make sure you describe your intention to file a complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario and outline how much money you want back from them. Also give them a time limit to respond (I gave them 48 hrs but they responded the next day). Click here to read my letter.

The company will state that you must sign a waiver to get your money back which is basically a gag order for legal proceedings (which I will completely ignore if ever asked to testify against them). You can try to insist that you won’t sign it until you get your money back but you won’t be successful. They will tell you that they you will receive a cheque within 15 business days once the waiver is signed but insist that the money be put back on your credit card (not a cheque) instead and tell them they have 24 hrs to reimburse you or you will proceed with your Consumer Protection Ontario complaint. Here is where you need to take a huge leap of faith: You need to give them your credit card number again before they can process the refund. If you prefer, ask them for a mailed cheque, but you risk having to chase them down for it. I gave them my credit card number and received the refund immediately after sending them the signed waiver. I called my bank right away and made sure that the funds had indeed been credited back to my card. Phew, nightmare over.

So there it is. It was 5 days of pure hell, but a lesson well learned. Never again will I let a service person into my house until I do some research on them.If you are reading this too late, you can get satisfaction!

I wish I had checked HOMESTARS first before selecting Appliance Repairman.

I got the $80 quote to come to my house for a dishwasher drain problem.
After he arrives, the repair man quotes me $360.
I wanted to pay an hourly rate since I knew it was a clogged drain that could be quickly repaired. He was done within 45 minutes. I still had to pay the full price.

Service to washine Machine

Be warned! This company is untrustworthy! Technician came to fix our washing machine... with an agreed upon service labour cost plus parts cost. Parts costs determined to be to high so machine was not fixed. Technician still charged for labour cost as ‘services’ at $320 (this is after the $80 service call waive). Machine is still broken and in a worst state then it was before technician came. The matter will be dealt Now via our credit card company for services unrendered (note to self if you find yourself in a similar situation), and unfortunately we are still left with a broken washing machine and $320 poorer.

Fridge Freezer Repair

I called this company thinking that they would give me professional service. While the repair man was nice enough, all he did was move my fridge, check out the motor and then charged me $400 for saying that nothing is wrong. He then went on to say that I could try to replace the motor for $350 but it wouldn't guarantee that the fridge would work.

Ridiculous. I decided to get a new fridge rather than pay these people again. Happy with my new fridge, extremely unhappy with the service.

DO NOT call these people

These people are completely unethical. They charge $80 for their repairman to simply show up. What they do not tell you is that the "diagnosis" is then charged separately as labour. We paid $335 for the guy to go into basement and fiddle around with our washer for a very short period of time (15 minutes at most). The repair guy was rude and intimidating from the get go. He told us the motor was dead and was mad that we asked questions to reassure ourselves that the motor was really dead. He got mad when we asked why he could not determine the motor was dead before all the "servicing." The washer was not repaired. To top it all off, he kept saying, "It could be a lot worse, you know." We were not sure what to make of that. I emailed the company protesting both, his behaviour and the charges. They wrote back saying that the guy had "serviced" various things before finding out that the washer motor was broken. Do not use their services

dishwasher

I wish I had read these other reviews- they wanted over $700 to repair a dishwasher when the cost by a certified repairman came to $250. Tried to inflate the cost of the parts and totally dishonest when I called them out. Repairman loved to talk and talk and ask too many inappropriate questions. He also damaged my cabinet and floor.

Do Not Call this place!

Appliance Repairman came out to repair my dishwasher, which was refilling with water well after it drained completely. The technician said it needed a part which he did not have, and would be back in a few days to install it. I paid a huge fee of $600. for this. He returned over a week later following my repeated calls, and installed the part. The dishwasher is still doing the same thing. The company agreed to send him out again, but four days from now, just prior to the weekend, with the proviso that I may need to pay for an additional part. They are horrible. The part was over priced as was the service. I wish I had read the reviews. This has been a very expensive way to find out how important that is. DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE !!

the biggest con artists BEWARE!!

these con artists came to "fix" my fridge. the guy pretended to work on the fridge and said the fridge needed a new compressor. He said he had to fix 3 other things with the fridge which cost $300. We then contacted LG for our fridge repair as a compressor (parts) is under warranty. When the technician came and saw the invoice from the Appliance Repairman he said that whatever the technician said he did, was not true because if he had done it there is certain evidence that would have shown on the fridge if that work had actually been done. we called and demanded a refund. apparently there is never any management on site just sales representatives. we received a written statement from LG rep stating that the work paid for was never done and even with the written statement they refuse to give the refund for the fraudulent work. they are con artists that take peoples hard earned money and have no human morals. I have reported them to the BBB! please DO NOT give these con artists your business!!!

Do Not Use This Company

I should have read the reviews. . .and I sure paid the price for not doing so. The come on is an $80 refundable service all. The repairman spent 15 minutes with a washer that had overflowed, claimed it was a slightly corroded pressure valve and he replaced the clamps. The grossly inflated price was $361.60. I used the washer and the spin cycle didn't work. So I called Maytag direct and they sent a repairman. The verdict:
the 10 year old washer drum is no longer balanced, the injector [of water] had loosened. It may live another year before I have to do anything. Maytag cost: 133.34.

The real warning here is that this company goes under several names: The Appliance Repair Guys. Appliance Repairman and on the payment receipt Appliance Repair Man.
