I signed a contract with Consumers Choice to have 4 windows installed
and was absolutely impressed with the workmanship and quality of service I received. My Sales Rep. Joe was knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to my family and friends.

Patio Door & Window Replacement

In June 2008, I had my patio door and all the windows replaced in my home. The installation process was excellent. Steve, the installer and his helper were very knowledgeable and detail oriented. Drop sheets were used to protect the hardwood floors, ceramic tiles and carpeting. They also vacuumed all the debris caused by the installation process.

Having this done in the summer allowed us to really feel the benefits of Energy Star windows & patio door. This winter has been extremely cold and we are definitely noticing a difference in our energy bills.

Windows, Doors & Garage Door

We recently had a number of windows, front door and sidelite, french door and garage door installed by Consumers Choice, I found their salesmen very knowledgeable and friendly, we were given great treatment and suggestions.
Along with the sales rep we had a great installation crew that did our
installation and did a very satifactory job on all our products, cleaned up after them selves which we found very gratifying.
My wife and I were so pleased with the workmenship and competance of this company and have recommended them to our friends and neighbors and thought we should pass this on to your readers.

Windows

For the first time ever I am compelled to put pen to paper regarding the excellent experience gained by engaging the services of Consumer's Choice Home Improvements.

It is probably a sign of the times, but most of us have become accustomed to expect, at best, average service from retailers, utility providers, repair servicemen and contractors.

This was certainly not the case with Consumer's Choice Home Improvements. From the first contact with a representative handing out brochures and offering helpful information in the Pickering mall to the final completion of the installation, I have regained my faith in Canada's old reputation for providing well-made products, installed by professional trades people, backed by ethical and straightforward business practices.

After making an appointment arranged to accommodate my schedule, a consultant visited my home. He took the time to find out what my concerns and wants were and then proceeded to provide the answers I was looking for. He demonstrated sample products, showed before and after photographs; I read customer reference letters, and was very impressed with the Window Wise credentials including numerous Company Of The Year awards.

I was astounded by the knowledge level of the consultant regarding product details including state of the art features which provide impressive energy ratings and all verified by documentation.

Financing specifically suited to my requirements was thoroughly discussed and the payments were to be offset by the energy savings I would experience. This was later confirmed by a government registered energy advisor who conducted inspections prior to and following installation.

The installers were obviously highly trained. They worked in a non-disruptive way, used drop sheets, vacuumed the floor when finished, showed my husband and I how our custom made windows operate, and took our old windows away. The entire experience was seamless.

Our house looks beautiful. Our heating costs have reduced by about 25% and we just received our government energy rebate cheque for $1,700!

Consumer's Choice deserves to continue to prosper and I would not hesitate in recommending them to my friends and family.

Window Replacement

I replaced 5 windows in my house. After a lot of research, and several quotes, I went with Consumer's Choice because a friend had used them, and the results were good.
My windows turned out great. I think the product is very good. There were some hiccups with the install and measuring (they kept messing up my address) but it didn't bother me too much.
They accidentally switched two windows (long story, they had the best intentions) but fixed their mistake.
Some of the trim work was sloppy (nails blew out of the trim, and were visible). I didn't bother to call them back because they could be easily painted over.
Chose Consumer's Choice because of the reviews here, especially those which were originally disappointed but the company returned to make it right.

My husband and I recently had our front door and a few windows replaced by Consumers Choice and from beginning to end this was a wonderful experience. Our sales rep was knowledgeable and friendly and the office staff offered fantastic service. We have had lots of compliments from our family, friends and neighbors. We will definitely use Consumers Choice in the future and have recommended them to a number of others.

Total Window Replacement

1. Window installation took from signing of the Contract to final touch up 6 months (April 2008 - October 2008).

2. We had to deal with numerous administration mistakes regarding the contract - Instead of one contract they split it up into 3 different contracts. Mike the saleman was only attentive to our needs until they recieved our deposits. After that we never heard from him again.

3. We needed to take numerous days off work for window measuring, window installation, door installation, new window installation because they did not schedule the job properly. One reason is that someone apparently forgot to order 1 of the windows so it it was not made. The second reason is the doors are not actually made by them but by another company.

4. They used 4 different subcontactors (1 crew inexperienced, 1 crew rude, the other 2 were okay) who showed up on 5 different days over a span of months.

5. After sales service is delporable. We were not satisfied with 2 of the windows so we tried to get them looked at. The first guy told us there was nothing wrong with the workmanship (see pictures). Each department blames the other. No ones takes responisbility so it takes forever to get anything resolved or done. We had to deal with at least 10 different people at Consumer's Choice from Administration to Installtion Co-ordinator to Sales Manager.

The bottom line:

The actual product is great but don't use a company that subcontacts out the installation work. If anything goes wrong you're in for one heck of a ride.

Company Response

Unfortunately we are at a disadvantage regarding this matter because we have no record of a complaint of this nature and, hence, cannot identify the customer, if in fact they are Consumer’s Choice customers.

We have contacted Home Stars requesting that the customer contact our office directly so that we can have the opportunity to respond accordingly.

In the meantime, please find our response based on the limited information provided in the complaint.

All of our products are custom made to our specifications and installed by Window Wise certified installers who work solely for Consumer’s Choice Home Improvements. Some of our installers have remained working for our organization since its conception in 1977.

Prior to manufacturing, a measurement recheck technician is always appointed to visit every home to confirm exact measurements.

It is important to note that with over 40 installation crews, an installation could involve multiple crews depending on the expertise required. That is to say; if a customer ordered windows & doors, eavestrough, and siding, three separate crews would be involved. This method of installing does involve more time, but the end result is worth it. Each product is installed by an expert in that particular field.

Also, all of our installations are Window Wise certified and eligible for an independent Window Wise inspection if a customer has any concerns regarding the products or workmanship.

According to the complaint, the customer claims the “product is great”, and for this we are pleased.

Again, we ask that Home Stars kindly contact the complainant directly and request that they give us the opportunity to deal with their concerns.

Windows and Doors...

Went with this company because sales rep was most informative, and not too pushy. Explained all features of their products, and rebate programs available. I recieved lower quotes, but the quality seemed to be un-matched. From the product, to the installation, an excellent experience. I recommend this company over all others.
