We purchased the Airthings digital radon detector to recheck our levels after 12 years. To our surprise, the radon levels in our bedroom on the 2nd floor was 150, sometimes peaking to over 200. After reading a good review of Mr. Radon from a colleague and filling out their questionnaire, we engaged them for a radon mitigation system. The system was installed in one day. The crew showed us the high radon levels under the slab and demonstrated the pressure changes from various points in our basement. They left two radon kits (short term and long term), demonstrated the system, and cleaned up the site. The short term test in the basement revealed a level of <50 and our bedroom is now in the single digits, with one day reporting a level of 0. Thanks for the peace of mind Mr. Radon. We have recommended you to our friends.

Tony K. Roofing came highly recommended, so we asked Tony to give us a quote on replacing our roof. The process was fast and easy and was very competitive compared with other quotes we received. We were interested in replacing a low quality roof with higher quality shingles, new venting, and new flat roof. Tony K. offered a 15 year warranty on his work and a 45 year warranty from the shingle manufacturer. Most of the replacement was done on the first day and the flashing on day two. They placed tarps around the house to catch debris and ensured everything was clean at the end of each day. The workmanship and flashing was significantly better than our old roof.

A windstorm blew some shingles off the top of the roof. I checked Homestars and gave Mr. Roof Repair a call. They explained the process, set me up in their system, and had crew over the next day. My roof was fixed in less than hour, along with some other minor repairs. I was told that some re-venting was required costing another $2,000. I elected not to proceed. Update (a few months later): I had to go up to the roof and found four roofing nails just below where they fixed the shingles. I have since revised my rating accordingly.

Company Response

Hey Mat... As home owners, we all know how disconcerting it can be to have any type of damage. Especially when it can lead to water entry. Glad we were able to help and appreciate the kind words. Cheers!

Purchased washing machine with pedestal, delivery, and appliance removal. Followed all instructions and disconnected existing appliance and moved it to an accessible location. Delivery guys show up and are surprised that washing machine is on a pedestal. Then state it is too heavy to move and they will need a four man team to remove it. They tell me to reschedule pick-up and then ask me to sign release without asking me to inspect the machine they just delivered. Had to write on it that they didn't remove the appliance. Called CSA to reschedule a pick-up and am informed that I need to pay another delivery charge. Also informed that delivery company has indicated that the machine is on a pedestal and is filled with water. I explain that there are no instructions for the customer to remove it from the pedestal and that the appliance is 40Kg lighter than the one they just delivered, and there is no water in it. Customer service tells me that there is nothing they can do. A voice mail to the customer service manager received no response. Epilogue: I removed the pedestal myself in 10 minutes (it would have taken 5 minutes with the help of someone). No water what-so-ever came out of the machine when I tipped it over. I called a free appliance removal service and two guys (not four) showed up and had no problem getting it out of the basement and on to their truck. For fabricating that the appliance was too heavy to move when it was lighter than the one they delivered, for not informing the customer to remove the pedestal beforehand, for saying that it was filled with water when it was not, for trying to charge me twice for delivery, and for not returning my call, I have to give CSA a 1 out 10 for this experience.

Even though I have a 15 year warranty on my furnace, the cost of the maintenance program is about the same as one annual maintenance visit, so it is a good deal for me. I also added my air conditioner because the warranty had just expired and I wanted to have that covered too. Direct Energy called me to make the booking and sent me reminders. The technician confirmed before he showed up and arrived exactly on time. He was friendly, courteous, and efficient. The maintenance checklists were explained to me to my satisfaction.
