We had MKZ help us out after a big poly-b replacement job; the company fixed over 50 drywall/ceiling holes and the job took around 2 weeks. Overall we are extremely pleased with Max and his team. We had countless contractors over several months for this job and we found MKZ had the best communication and had the highest standard of work. We did end up expanding the scope of this job a bit and the price increase was very reasonable; usually pricing is more aggressive at this point since you are already captive but I'm very happy MKZ did not take advantage of the situation. Lastly, they did a bunch of things (ie, some extra paining and handling some fixtures) for basically no cost which we are also very thankful for. In terms of the individual staff, Johnathan, who fixed most of the holes was really efficient and friendly. Big Max, the taper/mudder/painter, was exceptional. He is a perfectionist in some ways, which means he is willing to go the extra mile to make his work look amazing. Versus its competition we found that pricing was not the lowest but below the median of the quotes we received. We ultimately chose MKZ because Max was very detailed in what they were going to be exactly, which in some cases was more than competing quotes (ie, they will repaint an entire wall to blend while some will just patch the patch, or some will not paint at all). The company did ask for us to write a honest review, but we were not paid or compensated in any way.

My kitchen sink was plugged so called these guys since I saw one of their ads. The quote over the phone was reasonable and they could arrive later that day so went ahead. Once they started working on it, the 'extra fees' started piling up. Want us to use this tool? Extra $200. Cut this pipe? $150. (etc) Eventually we refused to pay more since the guy kept on trying more things (and charging) and still had no clue what was wrong. To his credit he continued to work on it 'for free' until it was fixed. I think you could tell he knew his company was robbing us, but he just works there. Overall, 1 star for actually fixing it and 2 stars for the guy who was friendly and somewhat apologetic for the big bill. Would not recommend since I can get a lawyer for less than $800 for 1.5-2 hours.

Very easy to deal with the lowest price I could find. I contacted the top 3 granite providers here on Homestars and the quote from Western was the lowest. Communication was very fast with responses typically within the hour. The measuring and installation went without a hitch. We were a little concerned our job would be too small for them to care, but they handled it professionally. As it turned out, the granite we picked was cheaper than the quote so we actually paid less! How often do you pay less than the quote in home renovations? Overall highly recommended and will use them again for future renovations.

Had Rick Belland from Amerispec inspect a home for us. Very professional and went out of his way to explain to use certain parts of the house. He ended up staying for quite a bit longer than expected but did not charge us extra. Was a bit leery on getting a home inspection in general, but as it turned out the repairs that the sellers made outweighed the cost of the inspection - so I guess it was worth it! As a note, the review system is confusing because there are multiple Amerispecs in Calgary and some of the reviews are posted under the wrong branch. In terms of pricing, I found Amerispec's pricing average but it is tough to know the quality of the inspector so I preferred to stick with a larger company. In all, very recommended.
