Expensive and Unprofessional

We have used professional movers 4 times. We did a more comprehensive move within the exact same distances and time frame with another moving company 2 years earlier for half the price.

We lost several expensive electronic items in this move and the men working this job were worst I've ever moved with.

Moving

They gave me an hour window for arrival and were an extra hour later than that. However, they were extremely quick. I had a one bedroom to move with stairs at the old and new place and everything was done in 2h or less with the 20 min drive included. One guy was very professional and his helper was seemingly just along for the ride, but still good. I found them to work very efficient together and only one smaller item was dented. I was quite afraid of how the move would go based on reviews but overall I had a generally positive experience. I did find it a bit shady that they accepted cash only though... The truck had blankets and they were upfront about what items were better off in my own vehicle in case of damage (ie TV). They have insurance you can pay $80 for but there is a decent deductible if it's used (I believe $450 or so). They were the cheapest company of several quotes, so based on price I was satisfied with the service received.

Moving

THEY ARE HORRIBLE. I was only moving 3 blocks and they managed do $1000's of damage to my furniture and my brand new home. They used no blankets, wanted to walk in both houses with shoes and no protective carpets, and didn't fasten the furniture. I was 8 months pregnant and I swear they put me into early labour with their blatant disregard for our belongings. DO NOT USE THEM!!! EVER!! They called the morning of the move insisting I pay cash.. guess this should have been a sign however I felt in a bind since I needed to move that day. Please do not make the same mistake I made.

Furniture Moving

I had The Mover Guys move my appliances and furniture from a storage unit into my new home. They were fast, professional, and friendly. I would definitely recommend them again.

BEWARE OF THESE GUYS! #1 you do not use the facilities on the outside premises of the residence or business your moving clients into. #2 You do not destroy the walls of the premises or carpets by dragging items on them. #3 You don't ignore the requests of the client or the clients obligations or directions to prevent the above. #4 The owner when called got irate when trying to explain the situation. BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!!

"Simple Home Move"

Hired them to move to my family another City 500km away while I was waiting at the destination. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. They damaged at least $1,500 in goods, wouldnt know how to pack if there life depended on them. Not a single blanket used in the move. Tried to string us along saying that our disassembled Ikea furniture was to blame and other brand new goods were already broken before the move. They only paid a portion after we threatened small claims court. Shady Company, do not use.

Moving several large pieces of furniture from one household to another.

I recently hired this company to move several large pieces of furniture (an oak dining table with 6 chairs, an oak dresser ith mirror, 2 oak nightstands with drawers, a reclining chair and a reclining loveseat) from the home of one elderly family member who was downsizing to that of another elderly family member who needed furniture. I no longer live in Edmonton, so I was trying to make the arrangements from a distance, and on very short notice, which was a bit intimidating. At first, I tried a company I had used years ago, but their quote was more than double what The Mover Guys quoted. I was a little bit hesitant, since I had seen some negative reviews of this company, but I decided to give them a try. My family members report that the men were professional, courteous, clean, and efficient. They arrived about one hour late, which was not unexpected, since our move was at the end of the day. However, they called before the scheduled time to say they would be late and give an estimated arrival time. The job was completed within the time estimated, and the cost was as quoted. My family members were extremely pleased, and so am I. If you read my other reviews, you will see that I do not hesitate to criticize when I am unhappy with work quality or lack of professionalism. That was not the case with The Mover Guys, and I would not hesitate to recommend them, based on this experience.

Personal move

We hired the Mover Guys to move our home contents into POD storage. We found the company to be very unprofessional and careless with our belongings. To start the day off, our appointment was for 10am, they phoned to tell us they needed to move someone else first and they were going to be late; they finally arrived at 2pm. We give them clear, concise directions on how the furniture was to be loaded, with one dresser at the front so it could be accessed easiest. We later discovered that they had placed the dresser at the back of the POD. We phoned back to notify them so they could come move it, and they told us, “No, we can’t come back, just swing it out yourself.” Take note, we are three women without the physical ability to do so. We also noticed that they didn’t take any time to wrap our delicate furniture with blankets or any coverings. When we went to pay, the mover demanded we pay “cash only”, although we were told on the phone we could pay with credit card. He quoted us at $129 hr. and when we went to pay, he tacked on a hidden “driving fee”, that we were unaware of. We also paid an additional fee of $60 for two treadmills, which bring me to our biggest issue of damage. When we unloaded some of the POD contents, we noticed damage to a bookshelf, one treadmill, and one dresser. We immediately called The Mover Guys, and were told that damage costs incurred by them would not be covered because we didn’t pay for extra insurance. They told us to call our home insurance company and file a claim with them. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that we paid an extra $60 to move these large items, only to have them damaged by these movers. What exactly does this “extra fee” cover? The worst part about this entire situation is when the rest of our items need to be moved this November from the POD; I am very concerned with the state of our remaining items. I believe all damage incurred to our belongings, by the movers, should be covered by the movers. This is a terrible display of customer service and I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Load a cube for an out of town move

My wife and I rented a cube, which was supposed to be an inexpensive and convenient way to move across long distance. The company that rented us our cube advocated that we use this company; it was the only one they recommended and they had experience loading them.

Well, they showed up late. They argued about what was allowed to go into a pod, eg: they claimed that they couldn't load a bed frame into it. Can you imagine that? Who moves a household without moving beds? They also told us that our love-seat/hide-a-bed was "low priority." The audacity of them trying to tell us how we should prioritize our own possessions is shocking.

Their manner of loading the pod suggested they knew absolutely nothing about the process. A pod has regular intervals of in-set rings in the walls, allowing you to rope off sections of the pod to make them more secure. They didn't do this once. All of our stuff is, at the end of the day, piled in a heap. Our possessions, which is to say, everything we own, looks like a dumpster inside the cube. Oh wait! Not everything we own! There was several pieces that we should have had room for, that we have to scramble to find somewhere to store, or ship or give to charity. This seems to be a common theme for these guys; they don't have the first clue about how to pack, so they leave stuff behind, and how you deal with it is your own problem.

Something else they did which I think is completely inexcusable, is they tinkered with our fixtures. Specifically, the frame for our TV stand had the screws screwed into it. For reasons I can't fathom, one of these "professional movers" unscrewed them and left them on the floor. We also will want to be able to find them when we get where we're going. Any time we've used another mover, if they felt it was necessary to do something like this, they told us what, why, and made a point of making sure those extra pieces were put in a safe place.

We wish we hadn't relied on the cube companies recommendation to hire "The Mover Guys." If we'd read the above reviews, we certainly wouldn't have.
