Hardwood flooring

We were recommended to Max by a friend. I called him up to measure and he was here the next day! He measured and gave us step by step information on what exactly he was going to do. I must say I learned a lot about hardwood flooring and good quality from Max. He gave us the exact quantity of boxes to purchase. He was right on! Once we purchased the hardwood Max was there the next day as he promised to take up the carpet and prepare the sub floor for the hardwood. He works very fast and has great knowledge, skills and craftsmanship when it comes to hardwood flooring installation. We were amazed at the job he did and are very pleased with the look of our floor. It is like a brand new house! We are glad we chose Max. Well done Max! You did an awesome job and will surely be recommended by us!

Installation of 500 sq/ft of engineered hardwood - main floor of house

I'm doing a complete gut of a 100 year-old home that I recently purchased. My wife and I put down a deposit on 5" hardwood maple mill run flooring from a GTA retailer and set out to find an installer. I must have called 20 installers. Of those 20, only 1 took the time to ask what kind of wood we purchased, who the manufacturer was and what the house looked like - that installer was Max of NORD-OST. And I am thrilled that he did. It turns out the wood we bought was a prime candidate for warping/buckling (given that it is a 5" hardwood being installed in an old and tempermental home) and that the manufacturer's milling and overall product had deteriorated over the last 5 years. Max gave me some tips on good retailers and products and I set out to find a more suitable product. And he even suggested that we might want to go with a thinner wood (even if engineered) because our house is so narrow - a wider board would make the space seem smaller. When I spoke to a few more reputable wood retailers, they all verified what Max told me. It was at that point that I knew I had to go with Max for the installation. We were on a tight timeline for the install and Max worked from 7:30am until 11pm on a Saturday to get it done. He took lots of time before even laying a single board to make sure he understood the sightlines properly. My wife and I were thrilled with installation. It was immaculate. Max took the time to walk me through the finished product and told me to give him a call if I had any concerns. 2 days later I noticed a slight bump and creek in the floor and I called Max. He was there the next day to cut out and replace a few boards. it turns out the sub-floor had sifted slightly. So even though it had nothing to do with Max's install, he still showed right away and put in a few hours to fix the problem. What more can you ask for?! Thanks again Max for your excellent customer service and craftsmanship. I will not hesitate to recommened you to family and friends. And the next time I'm doing any work on my floors you're the only person I'll call. Cheers.

Hardwood Floor Repair

Working with Maxim was a joy. He was courteous and professional right from the first phone call, when he assured me he could repair my badly scratched and dented hardwood floor. During the estimate, he exceeded my expectations by getting to work right away, filling in the scratches and dents, returning my floor to its original condition. He was very knowledgeable regarding potential repairs that could fix my floor - I highly recommend Maxim!

Hardwood flooring

We got Maxim's contacts from our friends who highly recommended him as a professional and experieced hardwood contractor. He came to our new house to make measurements and give us a price estimation. The whole project is about replacing broadloom on the second floor by hardwood, on ~900 sqft area. From the first moment we were impressed by his experties and fairness: he took all measurements, made his calculations and only after then gave us a detailed list of all costs. He also gave us all nessasary recommendations regarding the types of hardwood to be purchased. For example, we were planning to use two different colors/types of hardwood (oak and maple), while he recommended to purchase the two types from the same brand, so they can fit each other.
It took him 3 days to complete all his work, which was done with very high professionalism, especially since we were using two types (oak and maple) of hardwood, so the whole work need to be done with more accuracy and only by really experienced contractor.
We are very sutisfied with Maxim (Nord-Ost) work, and would highly recomment to our family and friends.

Laying prefinished hardwood

It's our second time we use Nord-Ost services and we are very satisfied with both projects we did.

The first project in our old house ~3 years ago included removing the old parquet and broadloom flooring in the whole house on a 1400 sqft area and putting a prefinished hardwood flooring and new baseboards. The cost of tat project was ~10000$, and out of that ~3500 was the contractor work. In this project we used Appalachian (Canadian) maple prefinished hardwood.

The second project was done recently in our new house - removing the broadloom on the second floor of our new house (~1500sqft) and putting a prefinished hardwood flooring and new baseboards. The cost of tat project was ~12000$, and out of that ~4000 was the contractor work. This project was completed in 3 days.

Overall the work was done very professionally and quick and clean. The results are great, and we were very satisfied with Maxim's (Nord-Ost owner) work.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
The quality of hardwood you use is very important for the final result, we saw that with our own eyes. In our first project we used prefinished maple hardwood from Canadian maker "Appalachian", while in the second project we used prefinished maple hardwood from Canadian maker "Superior" that Maxim (NordOst) owner has recommended to us. Although both hardwoods were great, we still could clearly see in the second project where the hardwood from "Superior" was used the result was better. We had less scrap wood left, the was no gaps between the planks at all, no gaps opened during the winter month when the humidity in the house changes, etc...

Hardwood Installation

We purchased our hardwood from a wood mill close to our home. Max came to our house was very friendly and went through the installation process with me in detail. Unfortunately the hardwood we purchased from the mill was not the same thickness or height. Max made sure he called me to ensure I understood what this meant and incurred quite a bit of extra work because the mill did not do there job correctly. He did not make me feel guilty or give me a hard time because the product wasn't consistent even though it took him a bit longer. He was very efficient and the job turned out great. He refereed us to someone who stains the hardwood and followed up with us to make sure we got his number. I would absolutely recommend him to our family and friends, he did a great job!!
