Never call these people

Our refrigerator had 2 problems with it.

1) The door wasn't closing properly
2) The water dispenser was leaking

I called this company because their magnet was on the side of the fridge (apparently the previous owners of the house had used them)

The repair guy Simon showed up and spent about 3 minutes looking at the fridge. He said that it would cost $1,020 to fix the fridge ($570 for the door and $450 for a water solenoid) and that I should just buy a new fridge. He collected the fee for his service call and left.

Afterwards I called another company that was recommended by a friend. They had the parts in stock and had a free technician. He came over and fixed both problems and the total bill including parts and labour was $175.

From reading the other reviews on this site I get the impression that Simon doesn't actually like to fix things. He just shows up, gives some crazy cost to fix the problem, collects his service call fee, and leaves suggesting you buy a new appliance.

Needless to say the magnet just went in the garbage and I will never call these guys again.

Terrible Experience Repairing Dryer - Avoid this vendor

We contacted the Appliance Service People 7 weeks ago to service our dryer. They did that work promptly and the serviceman gave us suggestions on how to avoid the issue in future. We followed those suggestions immediately and entirely.

The same problem recurred yesterday. The same serviceman came out but was rude and condescending. He only provided excuses for how it was not his fault, but those excuses made no sense ("water in the ducts" - but there had been no rain, and I showed him there was no water in the ducts; "lint filter wasn't cleaned" and I showed him the spotless filter).

I explained that all I was looking for was an explanation as to why this happened twice in seven weeks after 7 years of perfect functioning, and all they did was repeat those same excuses that I immediately showed were not correct.

They left without completing the work. When I called the office, the extremely rude man who answered would not let me finish a sentence, told me that I "screwed up their work" and then hung up.

Shoddy work. Terrible customer service. Work cannot be trusted. Avoid at all costs.

Dishwasher, Fridge

Last year our dishwasher stopped draining and leaked all over our kitchen floor. I called The Appliance Service People and their repair person, Simon, was at my door the next day. Simon took the dishwasher apart, suspecting he had to replace the motor. He'd planned ahead, and brought a new motor with him (instead of charging for the "evaluation" then coming back with the part another day, like some companies I've dealt with do!). When he found that our motor was fine, and there was just an elastic band stuck in it, he had the honesty to show this to me. I would never have known if he just took it out and charged me anyways, but he was open and forthcoming about this and only charged me for the service call! Amazing.

Last night at 10pm, our fridge stopped working. I called the main office expecting to leave a message but instead someone picked up right away. I asked for Simon by name and he was on my doorstep by noon today, again, part in hand for fixing the likely problem. He evaluated what was needed, didn't change out the part just yet because he wants to be sure before charging me for an expensive part, and told me what to look out for. Right now my fridge is running, and I know exactly who to call if it fails again.

Thanks Simon, and The Appliance Service People, for truly exceptional service.

Refrigerator

Service man (Simon) came to repair my refrigerator,he was pleasant. Did the repair, I paid. The day after called him that the fridge was still leaking. Simon gave me the run around for 2 day. I called the office and bob kept hanging up on me.

Don't waste you money. They cannot be tried.

Repair Dishwasher

My dishwasher stopped working. The technician came and he found that there is no power. We checked the switch board and it was off. We turned it on and it started working. when I called them they told me that the charge will be $45. If need labor and parts they will charge accordingly. He charged $20 extra for the labor. When I asked him to explain why he said rudely that " next time call someone else not me". I promised to do that!

Laundry Machine

I phoned The Appliance Service People the other day to look at my clothing laundry machine. They had previously serviced my fridge and did a good job so I assumed they would do a good job on the washing machine. Not so.
Simon dropped by and stayed a total of five minutes, maybe less. He said that it needed $800 worth of parts and labour and not to bother. He said it was too old to service and that I should get a new machine somewhere.
Then after that I called up another repair company and they dropped by 2 days later and fixed up the machine. It is working well now. Maybe Simon was having a bad day? Maybe he's been at this job too long? Hard to tell.
They do a good job on fridges so I will stick to fridge repair with this company.

LG refrigerator

Our refrigerator was not dispensing water properly. The repairman said he did not know what the problem was. It could be the switch, the water container which was leaking or probably the line was frozen. He suggested I defrost the refrigerator for 24hrs. His service charge was about $107 with taxes which I felt was exorbitant since he did not correctly diagnose the problem. I felt he wasn't interested in diagnosing the problem but only wanted to collect the service charge. I was very disappointed and would never recommend this company. He also had an apprentice with him who was not learning good business practices.

LG Refrigerator Repair

This is going to be a conflicting review, 1) Duc, the repair person is exceptional, 2) company telephone customer service skills are probably even worse than calling Bell or another company that transfers you to a third world country.

I wouldn't have even used their services but the original company I found through HomeStars had an injured LG repairman and they referred me to The Appliance Service People, so I was stuck.

I called a number of companies I found through HomeStars and none of them returned phone calls.

A few of the things I didn't like about this company:

1) They call the $65 service call a "deposit"
2) Once the problem is diagnosed, they don't really tell you the price. Duc approximated that it would be about $200. I took a photo of the error message so already knew what the problem was.

I told Duc that if the part is $200 or more, let me know because I'll buy a new fridge instead of trying to fix this one.

After all is said and done, a part that costs $20 and 90 minutes of Duc's labour, the final bill was close to $250.

I completely forgot I printed out the $35 coupon, but my guess is that they pad their invoices to accommodate the coupon -- so Duc got a $35 tip is the way I'll have to look at it.
