We started work with Shawn from The Renovators of Canada in 2017 and partially through the project he parted ways with TROC. We liked the work that had been done so far, so we continued working with Shawn. Stress definitely got the better of Shawn, and it was incredibly difficult to work with him as our project progressed. We had a lot of reclaimed wood that we purchased for our project and should have had some left over since we paid for it but it all went missing. Even though we are happy with the end result, our project was 2 months late and really frustrating.

We contacted Krys Construction for a quote on our basement renovation. After meeting a few contractors, we decided Krys was the best fit. His quote was higher than other quotes that I had received but it was the most complete. Other contractors seemed to have all kinds of hidden charges, and we thought Krys did a great job of letting us know where we could see additional charges (i.e. more tiles, better floors etc...). Schedule was also really important and we got that upfront, which I really appreciated. We let Krys know that since I'm on mat leave, we didn't have the budget to finish the basement and he adjusted his quote to get enough finished so that it was usable, while fully finishing the basement bathroom. Krys' trades are incredible, they are friendly, efficient, professional and clean. Friends who looked at our basement were thoroughly impressed with the work. Having done a previous large renovation that was super stressful, I was a little skeptical but Krys and team exceeded my expectations - I was so happy with the work daily. Two really great inclusions were duct cleaning and project cleaning - I think this is such a great way to put a bow on everything before turning over to the homeowner. A few cons: Even though we had a schedule, we had a few days with unscheduled work. Our project schedule was aggressive and finished a few days late. Krys was quick to address the unscheduled work which was great and he was very upfront about the work that needed to be rescheduled. We still had a few construction things on the floor when the cleaning person came so unfortunately, we're going to have to clean floors again. Also there was mud on our stairs that didn't get removed. With our partially finished basement, we tried to address the items that were in scope vs not up front (i.e. no trim, no stairs, no paint) but there are some grey areas. The only item that took me by surprise was a door to our storage room that I thought was included since it was on our plan but isn't. We're paying a little more to get that door. Most people reading this, I'm sure will be finishing their project so these last few items won't be an issue. Overall, I've already recommended Krys Construction to a few friends and they will be the first contractors I contact for future work. It was easy to get in touch with Krys and very easy to work with. I'm so happy we found Krys Construction!

We selected this company based on a reco from the Renovators of Canada (T-roc). I met the owner Marie at our home and we got along well... she has years of experience and knows a lot about structure and finishes. I thought I was clear that I wanted to open up our layout which would include knocking down a wall and potentially minimizing some half walls. Our first draft included a big wall in front of our staircase to hide our fridge. I took the drawing and provided a more direct representation of what I wanted to which she turned around design drawings. Decorators Corner was hired by T-Roc - but it seems they got different drawings than I did and a few of the wall measurements were incorrect - which lead to confusion when our cabinets were ordered and installed. Marie went on vacation twice over the course of our project, which also led to delays communicating with myself and the contractor. We had additional hours to work through design finishes but ultimately we were left to source and work through pulling together materials and finishes ourselves. We are most thankful that she was able to help us with our wall colour which looks great. I've seen some of her commercial work and it is beautiful but unfortunately she wasn't as dedicated to our project, nor did she take time to understand what I was looking for from my space initially.

I had to post this even though my renovation is still not complete. I found T-ROC on the Brian Baeulmer Approved website under contractors. Ryan came out to our house and said all the right things for first time renovators 1. they are transparent with the budget 2. they ensure clear and consistent communication 3. they source multiple quotes and give us the power to choose our trades every step of the way etc... We signed up with T-Roc Halton. Little did we know Ryan was on his way out of the company and our quote didn't include one expensive, key aspect - the engineer and support beam required to execute our renovation. We were introduced to Shawn who was the contractor and project manager assigned to T-ROC Halton. Ryan started the project by sending out our contract to various designers - we ended up having to escalate this project to Perry (the owner) because we went nearly a month without any movement. Shawn stepped in and got things moving for us. Perry promised us a site visit and never showed. About 60% into our project we got an email from Perry stating that Shawn was no longer a T-Roc representative and that our warranty would not be an option through T-Roc. We tried to get in touch with Perry to discuss our options however he avoided us altogether. His email came after he had already terminated our account to a handy app called BuilderTrend - we had been trying to log in and reached out for assistance. Shawn was left to communicate with us the best he could and the only option we had was to continue with Shawn who offered to ensure his work was warranted for 10 years. Shawn started his own company, (SQR) Supreme Quality Renovations- I will continue my review on Shawn's work when our project is complete. This may be a series of unfortunate events but the few interactions that I had with Perry were enough to motivate me never to recommend T-roc to another client ever again.

Company Response

Its unfortunate that this person feels the way they do. Shawn Musseau was an employee of T-ROC, opened his own business (SQR) and kept Ang as his own customer. Ryan from T-ROC did quote the work initially, but has had no involvement since then. The only contact I have had with the customers is confirming that Shawn Musseau was not part of the the T-ROC team. Given that Ang's renovation with Shawn has taken too long, and is not meeting her expectation is due to the contractor she has hired, not T-ROC. The team at T-ROC feels bad for Ang and her experience with SQR, but this has nothing to do with us as it was her decision to hire Shawn Musseau. We wish Ang all the best, and hope that her renovation turns out well in the future.

Our contractor found us a counter top company that was dismal (see my other reviews). I found A Granito World on Homestars and after a few quick emails with Vik and a visit to their show room, picked out a quartz in my budget and I was on my way to a beautiful kitchen once again. It was also nice to be able to see the slab going into our house. Vik came out to our house to measure, the same day I went in and picked out my counter. He was going on vacation two weeks later but ensured our counters were installed before then. They do great, clean work unlike my previous experience. My countertops really make my kitchen. I'm so happy with my purchase.

Jordan is a very nice person to work with but our granite counters were not measured correctly. Our island is a disaster. It doesn't fit properly at all. There's a centimetre gap between our wall the quartz, that they tried to hide with a "backsplash" and silicone. It looks really sloppy. The cut around our sink is completely uneven. Go with a more reputable supplier. You might save time and money but hopefully you'll get a product that is perfect the first time. Jordan ended up recutting two out of 3 pieces, again completely incorrect. We're hoping for a refund!

My kitchen is nice but they were pricier than the competition. Angelo was very organized for our first meeting coming with both colour samples and handle samples. For a first time renovator this made things easy but there is so much more you can do with a kitchen than just the basics and I wish that was made more obvious upfront. Ongoing communication, while responsive, there isn't always acknowledgement or follow through. I selected a different handle colour when I sent in my specs for my appliances and made the mistake of assuming all was well. Install day came, the cabinets were overall beautiful but wrong colour handles arrived. Our installer was efficient, clean and meticulous but wore shoes that scuffed my new flooring, I'm still hoping a few marks will come out. We're noticing a few spots where there's either scratches from installing or maybe the paint didn't hit it. UPDATED: Looks like we're getting the handles we requested. All is right in the world!
