Gary was prompt, communicative and a great guy to deal with. My couch was professionally fixed in situ at a time that suited me. I would have no trouble recommending Gary to family and friends and was so impressed I have asked him to quote me on more upholstery work. I like it when you find a tradesman you can trust!

I had a problem with the humidifier installed last year, a stress fracture that looked like a manufacturers defect meant it could not be used. Dave sent Jamie and Steve to fix it (after hours as I don't get home until 7:00PM. - thanks guys!!) - which they did quickly, efficiently and to my greatest satisfaction.... rather just than replace the fractured part they replaced the entire humidifier. I went upstairs to get the guys a glass of water - I came back down a few minutes later, and it was done! No mess, excellent service and genuinely friendly people!

I would like to applaud the owner of Reliable Home comfort, Dave Chaddock, on what, simply put, was a great job! To begin with he did not launch into any high pressure sales pitch, he explained all the advantages and disadvantages of mid and high efficiency furnaces and allowed us to make our choice. He explained everything about rebates and furnace choices, and gave us a very good price on a Goodman furnace and A/C and the best advice on the hot water tank. To accommodate my schedule they came on Saturday and got to work immediately. Dave took me to Home Depot to buy my hot water tank (note: no $$ uplift on one supplied by him) - the GE ones are made by Bradford and White and are known for their reliability. Direct Energy will charge you $75 to remove your old tank, so Dave does it for nothing AND returns it to them so there is no charge to you - I think we have all had enough of this government-sanctioned robbery! Dave, Andrew and Livio were very efficient and had everything done exactly as promised by 9PM. They actually came back the next day to remedy the position of the A/C unit outside. He also did some duct work to replace what was there already because he thought it was "messy". Dave has a great team they finished the job better than I expected. When they left they took all of the old equipment, and left the basement spotless. Dave walked me through the work they had done, explained all the paperwork, completed the OPA forms, and then I gave him the cheque. Reliable never expect you to pay a penny until the work is completed to your satisfaction. Of course it still hurts – but with all the rebates it is possible to come away with a new furnace and a/c for well under $4k which is a good deal when you consider it is constantly used and has a warranty for 10 years parts and labour and Dave even promises to come back and service it free once a year. I would absolutely recommend Dave and Reliable Home Comfort for all your HVAC requirements. I now have another name to add to my list of contractors that I can absolutely trust....and get hold of when I need! Dave ALWAY, ALWAYS answers his phone when you call.... that is a level of customer service that I had forgotten existed!

First time was in 2003 moving from N Toronto to the Niagara region. It wasn't my choice - the company paid so it was a revelation having everything packed for you - THAT was a real joy - the team that showed up were from Newfoundland and needless to say they were "entertaining" and made the process thou roughly enjoyable. They stayed overnight and were quite a hit at the local pub in the evening! So that part went well and everything went into storage for 3 months. When everything came out of storage on my moving day 3 months later they were 12 hours late and all my linens were moldy. Took some time but they were good about replacing it through the insurance. So the next time in Jan 2008 I moved I went will the same company pointing out my previous issues so they did not reoccur... Kingsly came to assess the job...as I was paying this time I took a good deal more interest in the process. Kingsly came around and we had a discussion about what I wanted - I asked for the same as the last move - full service and storage for several months. The day of the move they turned up 2 hours late. We did not live in the house as I had moved for work, so we had got there on the Friday night and had to dig away at 6ft of show down the entire lenth of our The first question I was asked was "where are your boxes?" - Um...no... You are doing the packing... Then all hell breaks loose... Kingsly (who is always on lunch apparently) finally got back to me and told me that wasn't what he quoted on.... my wife who was there to witness when I gave him the instructions was in apoplexy... After much commotion they finally agreed to do what they could but of course had to go back to the depot to get some boxes form the depot.... another 2 hours...on MY clock... It goes without saying that they had to knock off at 5:30 because of "regulations" .... Being as the house completed on Monday I HAD to be out on Sunday.... after some intense negotiations and a personal bribe of $500 to the crew leader on top of the clock...they agreed to come back on Sunday and complete the job.... we slept on the floor... So finally everything was out and all my stuff was in storage again... In March when I had it delivered to my new house there was little hassle other that the usual delays...5 hours this time because the booked another job before mine.... considering they were meant to be at my place at 9am I am confused as to how they intended to achieve this without ripping the fabric of the space-time continuum.... (Maybe they should hire Q from Star Trek to make their schedule actually work). I was glad to see that nothing was moldy this time but a several items were badly broken.... this was due to pallets "shifting in storage" apparently and they lost a box of kitchen equipment.... The major items broken were a coffee table and an antique desk (legs snapped off) and my big Bombay Bed had rope burns on the finish...- there were lamps and mirrors etc too but these were not among my prize possessions... When it came to claiming my damages they insisted that the furniture would be repaired rather than replaced. Although unhappy, I agreed because that was my only choice. They sent a furniture repair lady around who took my stuff for a week (so I had to sleep in the spare room). The bed repair was great.... looked as good as new, but my desk and coffee table were abysmal! Basically they just glued the legs back on.... now the coffee table was only $400 and I can face the crack away from where it is too obvious... however my antique desk which was at least a $1000+ may years ago has had it's basic structural integrity compromised and of course visible breaks and repairs virtually wipe out the value of the piece.... I could have done the same job 9actually better) with No More Nails! To be fair I was called by a Mr. Taylor and to review my bill…. Like the $600 charge to my credit card 6 weeks after the move because they “should have charged me more hours for traveling to my location”… which were actually the hours they were late! As far as I am concerned, Taylor Moving and Storage failed to provide good customer service and only increased the stress of the moving process. I did finally have some issues addressed but only to a marginal sense of satisfaction and certainly not to the extent that I would consider ever using them again. I am not “cheap” and tend to pick contractors and service providers on quality rather than price. The bottom line is the money I paid here did not provide the level of service expected. I would look elsewhere in future….

What could this company do to improve their services?
Explain exactly what is and what is not included in the quotation. In fact call it an estimate.... a quote is a fixed price....amazed at how many don't know the difference.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Read reviews on homestars - PLEASE...NEVER use the two men and a van services off kijiji or in the classified press....it is never going to be $40 an hour.... trust me you will be burned by one of the oldest scams in the book - your posessions will be held to randsom. You can certainly trust companies...even Taylors... to be honest for the most part and you will have a level of recourse.

I was renovating my house in Ajax and saw this little place on the way to breakfast. As I needed the upstairs carpet replaced in the new house I thought I would pop in for a quote on a Saturday. I picked the carpet I would want in the store. Nader came after work at 5 and measured up and quoted on the spot. The quote was under what I had expected by a large margin - large enough to make me wary and I almost walked away! However, my mizely side came out and I decided to take a chance. I was also given a substantial reduction if I removed my old carpet myself....so guess what I did Sunday.... it is a very easy job if you just cut the carpet in strips with a good sharp knife. I gave Nader a key as I wasn't living in the house at the time and he said he would do the work during the week. I called on Tuesday because I wanted to co-ordinate with other tradesmen and to my surprise he told me I could come and pick up the key - they had worked all Monday night! Now that is SPEEDY service. When it came to selling my other house I had Silver Carpets over to red the carpet in the bedroom and the stairs - I obviously wanted a cheap job that looked good for sale only purposes....Nader was over in one day and the work was done the day after! I got a cheap carpet but the job looked a $million (I wish I had done it before!!)... I had a quote for stair carpet from a big box store that was 4 times as much for the vey cheapest carpet they had! I have no hesitation in recommending Silver Carpets as an honest, reliable, quality and SPEEDY servive provider.

Our bathroom renovator put us on to Barry from K-wood. I was impressed at everything they did. Measured twice and checked on the delivery the same day. The cabinet construction is top-notch and the finish was astounding. After leaving a competitor somewhat disheartened after being told "unless you are prepared to spend $35k you may as well go elsewhere" this was a pleasant relief! Custom fitted cabinets for the same price as "off the shelf" from the Home Depot makes me very happy. I would not hesitate to recommend these guys. They also made custom cabinets for my ensuite bathroom which look a $million! If you are looking for the best combination of service, price and quality you would be hard pressed to find better than K-wood.

Company Response

We're so happy that you're happy with the end-result. Best, K-Wood Kitchens

Quality Construction renovated 2 bathrooms for us. The ensuite was fully tiled with a walk-in shower and the main bath with a Mirolin for easy maintenance. Doug was there for us every step of the way, from choosing tile to custom shower fixtures and doors. The job looks like it cost much more than we paid, and we are absolutely ecstatic with the results. Doug worked within our budget to provide us with excellent, quality service. We had 2 entire bathrooms demolished and re-done within 2 weeks. Doug worked with us to design the bathrooms so that we could get the most out of limited space. We put it on paper and they made it happen! Doug was always available when I needed to ask him a quick question or make a change. Doug stayed until the job met all our expectations. Our new bath/shower looks great. Thanks to Quality Construction we have a beautiful new bathrooms with quality cabinets (through K-Wood Kitchens – custom made – we paid cost!)…I highly recommend this company! one of the rating questions was: "How likely are you to recommend this company to a friend?"... well... I already have!
