Moving

I had Your Action Movers move me on Thursday 19 September, 2013

Initially I thought the move went OK. However, immediately I had some issues with the way things were done, so I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They took a lot of breaks, taped everything in sight and were slow. After the move I noticed that they had damaged a wall in my new house and broken the box spring on a bed. The box spring must have been dropped from a height as the nails that hold it together came apart.

I contacted the owner Robert and he wasn't able to come by until the following Monday to assess the damage. Unfortunately my father passed away the same day and I had to cancel.

I was out of the country for two weeks and Robert took a bit of pestering to get back to me when I returned. When he came to my house he was argumentative and talked about what a favor he did moving for me as it took more hours than the flat rate I paid, I had more boxes then I said (I purchased boxes so I knew I had exactly the amount I said), there were stairs and his list of reasons why I should feel indebted to him went on. He suggested that he would hammer the box spring back together. In his opinion it wasn't new so "what do I expect him to do replace the box spring?". He mentioned his $350 damage deductible on the invoice and said that I can pay they guy that helped me to move the difference to paint the wall. The wall that was damaged was on the stairs so the whole wall will need to be repainted to fix it. Pay him to paint my wall?

I told him that I was feeling very stressed with the recent death of my father, and talking with him was not resolving my issues and asked him to leave. He didn't leave, and continued to rant. I told him again, and advised him that my father had died two weeks ago and I am not able to talk to him right now. By this point I had ushered him out the front door where he continued to rant and told me that "I didn't kill your father". His lack of empathy, completely overwhelmed me. At this point I shut the door leaving him still talking.

I emailed him after that advising him that I still expect him to address the issue. He didn't respond.

To summarize, if your furniture is not new he feels that it isn't valuable and he has a free pass on any damage he does to your house or possessions up to $350 as per his receipt.
