Front garden design & planting

Recommended by a trusted contractor, Ray Johannes was hired by us to re-configure a front walkway and plant a garden. The focalpoint of the garden (installed fall 2006) was a 15' weeping nootka pine. Weighing over 1 tonne, the landscaper dropped it 3 times on its rootball. When questioned about this, he said it would be fine. The next spring it was showing signs of distress and so were we because the landscaper was not returning calls or answering e.mails. Finally half way through the summer he showed up and transplanted a neighbour's unwanted 12' weeping cedar. This took better than 7 days and much of this time the root ball lay exposed to the elements and not once did he return to cover the roots or supply water. Ray said this was a hearty tree and the heat and other conditions would nopt harm it. This tree dies on us this spring and when we pressed again for a replacement, all we got was a 5' weeping cedar and now no returned calls or emails.

Approximate cost of services:
$15,000.00

Company Response

1. It was raining hard and the chain accidentally slipped off the Bobcat only once not 3 times. The 15' weeping nootka pine tree did not survive but was replaced.

2. The reason for the time delay I was fully booked with a big project at that time. As for the weeping cedar tree we had to dig manually and even had to use car jacks to dig out.

3. As for the 5' weeping cedar tree, I also purchased smaller trees and shrubs to accommodate the gaps in between to make it look aesthetically more appealing.
