This review is about Jyman Mater Built. I cannot say, Jayman is a bad builder, however next time for building a house most probably I’ll try other builders. Also I’ll make sure the builder has a Quality plan in place and does proper supervision on subcontractor’s work quality ( and not just pushing for the deadlines). I had Jayman built my house in 2010. In the past 5 years, I have had, 3 service calls for broken furnace, one complete replacement of water heater, 3 times roof repairs, 3 times broken garage door operator ( that works only twice a day in average), 4 times plumbing issues, 2 times fixing noisy floor, one toilet replacement and number of popped out drywall screws . I didn’t mention most of the issues that were fixed by Jayman in 2 and 12 month services (e.g. resurfacing garage floor, insulation repair, vent hose repairs, plumbing repairs, floor and bath repair, etc.). Actually the only bright point that I have seen in Jayman is their after sale service representative (Arno Suckau). He is extra ordinary good and professional (I can say too good for Jayman!). And if I build another house with Jayman, it would be because of this individual. In general if I have to build a house with Jayman again I’ll inspect thoroughly the work after completion of steps such as framing/floors, electrical, plumbing (will run a leak test), mechanical, basement insulation/moisture barrier work, and especially roofing; I’ll make sure the shingles are quality with proven history, and definitely no BP product! My recommendation to Jayman (and general other builders) is to focus more on the quality rather than deadlines. I think if Jayman (and other builders) do more quality checking during construction period, not only the customers will be more satisfied but after sale costs and headaches will be also reduced.

10/10

My house was built in 2010, Great Canadian was the roofing contractor. Before the end of 5 years warranty I noticed a shingle blow off, more inspection indicated about 1/3 of the shingles are not sealed. I contacted Great Canadian and Wes Cheyney the general manager responded almost immediately and arranged an inspected (himself and the service manager). The issue identified as material issue (something brought up by another roofing company). Wes helped me to make a complaint for the material supplier (BP Canada Building Products of Canada Corp.) Regardless of the result I can consider Great Canadian, a responsible and reliable contractor. The only recommendation I have for Great Canadian is to use material worthy for their good work (even if the builders conduct them to use the brands that don’t have a proven quality). In my case, the roofing issue made me to do a bit of research about the BP products. My lesson learned based on my own case and what I found is to think twice before using BP products. In general, my recommendation is to make sure the shingles that builders are specifying or your are using to renew your roofing has a clean history and proven quality (don’t rely on the builders’ recommendation only).
