First: Apartment building plumbing emergency that could NOT wait. Slight panic. I called around to over ten other plumbing contractors. All booked. Next day at best. Then I remembered Hammond. Never used them before but heard good feedback. Solid rep. Gave them a try. Like everyone else, they were all booked for the day at least. HOWEVER, they made the effort to check their plumbers' schedules, look for a potential window, and temporarily redirect one of their plumbers to take care of my emergency without materially impacting their workflow. They literally went that extra mile. Not to mention, the work was top notch, the plumber was very knowledgeable and professional, and quick. I will call Hammond first next time. Second: Clogged drain in an apartment unit. Was afraid of overflow from units above. Yikes. It was a Tuesday. 6:30 pm. I called one of those 24/7 emergency drain companies thinking they would be able to send a plumber out asap in what was a bonafide emergency. Also, clogged drains are supposed to be there specialty. I was told they could send a plumber out on Thursday! Thursday! How is that 24/7 EMERGENCY service? So, once again I tried Hammond. I would have called them first, but I thought: better to call a company that claims they specialize in drains in this case, as I knew the clog was bad and deep. Hammond showed up in half an hour and got the job done. And it's not because they are not busy. The plumber finished up my job at around 8:00 pm and he had two more jobs to go to that evening. Wow.

I insulated most of the exterior walls in my renovated basement with Roxul Comfortbatt. However, there were some sections (e.g. rim joists/headers) where achieving the proper air seal would be next to impossible, and other areas where spray foam just made more sense. After contacting a number of spray foam companies, I decided to go with Foam Comfort based on their experience, customer ratings, and their use of BASF Walltite spray foam. FC's estimate was not the lowest, but it was very competitive. From the very beginning, I was pleased with FC's professionalism and responsiveness. Kudos to Diane for her excellent back office work and her fast-response customer service. Through Diane, I was able to arrange an appointment for the job that met my schedule and needs. Even though I was the only job that day for this particular crew, they showed up about 20 minutes outside the stated time window. However, not a big deal since you need to be available pretty much all day for this type of job anyway. Chris and Wil (the two-man dynamic duo from FC) were courteous, responsive, diligent, thorough, proactive, and just nice guys to boot. And they just did excellent work. These guys don't fool around. Once they were in my home, they got right down to work: consultation, prep, spray, trim, cleanup. It was all done expeditiously and the quality was excellent. They even made some smart suggestions on how a couple of things could be done better than I had originally specified, and there was no extra charge for the added work. Just a couple of minor complaints: 1) When Dan (nice guy) came to quote on the job, he apparently did not recognize the difficulty of spraying the rim joist above my garage wall (very complicated area with ductwork, drop ceiling, cables, tight corners, etc.) It actually required some extra work on my part to prepare the cavities (I like to do as much myself as I can); and Chris and Wil could not reach a couple of cavities, so I will have to improvise something myself to seal these areas. Chris and Wil really did do their very best to make it work. I don't think anyone else could have done better. I just wish I would have been informed of the difficulty of spraying in that area so I could have made better preparations, or so that an alternative approach (such as using 1/2 pound foam, which expands more than the 2 pound foam used), could have been considered). 2) While Chris did an excellent job of removing the excess foam from the top plate areas of my stud walls without damaging my vapour barrier or tuck tape, it would have been better if the spray foam was put in before I put up the vapour barrier. I spoke with Dan about the sequence of events during the initial consultation. IMO, in light of the scraping/removal operation, he could have recommended doing the spray foam before the vapour barrier for this reason. Luckily, no real damage was done to the vapour barrier, but there is some overspray and it could have caused me some extra work if Chris wasn't so careful and skilled at removing the excess foam. That said, I would definitely recommend Foam Comfort to family and friends. I have worked with many, many contractors over the years for roofs to basement slabs and everything in between. I wish they were all like Foam Comfort.

Great advice for us, well taken. I have made a note of this for Dan so that we can improve on these areas. I will pass on your review to Chris and Will as it says many nice things about how they operate. Thank you.

Arthur quickly identified the problem and promptly dispatched an employee to make the repair. The roofer who did the work was courteous and professional. Arthur was very thoughtful and willing to take the time to clearly explain the work that needed to be done and to answer any questions I had.
