Moving from Toronto to Boston

I had a tight timeline for my move to Boston from Toronto. My things couldn't enter the US until my US TN visa had been activated and the visa couldn't be activated until 10 days before I started work. Of course I wanted my things in the US before I started work. All the other moving companies I talked to (United, Humholdt, etc...) couldn't guarantee delivery in 10 days to Boston. Multicity did -- hence why I chose them.

Moving day came and the packers were almost on time. Not bad. One of them (Juan) was very careful. The other required more supervision.

Delivery day came and Ishmael delivered my stuff. I had to help him carry one of the large items up the stairs because the person that he had arranged to have help him in Boston didn't show, but I am young and didn't mind. It was better to have just Ishmael (because he was so careful) then Ishmael plus a yahoo.

In the end I am happy I picked Multicity. All my things arrived on time and intact.

My US TN visa didn't permit my good

Moving from Halton Region to Toronto

We've moved four times in four years - two of those times cross-country. These guys were the WORST movers we've ever used. They managed to smash various things (stacking boxes of books on top of boxes clearly labelled "FRAGILE" doesn't help the latter), dropped an end-table and loosened the top, showed up 3 hours later than expected and with insufficient crew, took WAY longer than they should have to load and unload the truck, and left their dinner garbage (pizza box) sitting on my neighbour's property. Their estimate for time was WAY out to lunch. And their team lead left greasy fingerprints on one of my swords, which can ruin the steel. I cannot recommend this company at ALL.

(And before anyone tries to blame our packing for stuff getting smashed - in two cross-country moves totaling 20,000 km, we didn't lose anything. Thanks to these guys, we've lost several breakables, and had to perform minor glue jobs on a dozen more.)

Company Response

In response to this complaint above, our company does over 1500 local moves per year. Our company has competitive pricing and offers only the best service in our industry. The total moving costs mentioned above was inflated by the customer by over $600.00. When I spoke to my movers regarding this situation above, they informed us that they were asked to stack all the boxes and furniture in one room where the only way all the items would fit was to place it on top of each other. Our company was kind enough to add two more men to the destination side to make the delivery quicker for the customer's sake and we didn't even charge them for the extra labour. We are sorry that you are unhappy with your move and we wish you the best of luck in the future.

Move from Scarborough, ON to Montreal, PQ

My aunt moved from Scarborough, ON to Montreal, QC in May 2010. MultiCity Moving was very punctual. When they said they would be there at 8:00 a.m. sharp, they were there right on the dot. The movers were polite and very pleasant. The move was fluid from origin to destination.

MOVING

My move from my Toronto home to storage by Multicity, followed by a final move to Vancouver was a great success. Given the number of times my goods & furniture were handled, I was pleasantly surprised that everything arrived in Vancouver in such great shape. They arrived to my home, took it away and delivered it 2 months later in Vancouver. Cost effective and worry free. Herb Bonder, clever and witty sales manager and his point person and storage guru Robert Semiramis were amazing. The movers and the receptionist in T.O. were efficient and most helpful. At the other end, Jason in Delta, B.C. was the calm voice at the end of the phone with great organization, ensuring that all would be fine. And it was. Boxes and furniture arrived in top shape ! Who thought moving could be so easy? Big thank you to these guys who work so hard and still remain calm and pleasant in the most stressful of situations.

2 Stage Move

We were so pleased with MultiCity. They moved us out of our condo, stored our stuff for several weeks, then picked up more of our stuff and brought it all to our new home without a scratch or scuff. The crew was extremely professional and I've already recommended them to friends.

Move from Ontario to BC

We hired Multicity to move our belongings and 1 car from Ontario to BC with a full pack and unpack. I can not imagine any reviewer giving this company 10 because in our case, the moving experience was awful. We had these problems:

The packer/movers didn't use moving blankets on all the furniture and items, and some were damaged. In some cases they used our own blankets (and a pillow!) to wrap items to be shipped. They also ran out of boxes and started filling random bins etc. that we had already packed ourselves.

They promised "door to door" delivery of the car. This was an empty promise, as they later revealed they could only deliver to car dealerships. We paid ahead of time for this service, so had to go out of our way to arrange delivery.

Our actual shipping weight was 1000 lbs (and thus $1000) over our quoted weight. Whether or not the quote was purposely low to secure business or if there was a problem with the weigh-in is unknown.

The unpack was sloppy and unprofessional. Many items were thrown into closets or on the floor. The movers complained and seemed to be inconvenienced by having to unpack. The unpackers did not seem to know anything about the "itemized list" touted on the website, and instead insisted that we open every single box as it came in the door so we could tell them where to put its contents.

Dealing with most of the company representatives was difficult. Our calls were returned after many days, or in most cases, not at all. The company needed constant motivation and reminders to provide even the most basic customer service. Since we made a claim on damaged items, we must continue this ordeal. So far Multicity is more than a week late in getting back to us on the claim.

Multicity failed in almost all respects to provide the services expected of a competent moving company. I would not recommend this company to anyone for any kind of move.

$7,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Multicity should come prepared with enough boxes and moving blankets to complete a move to avoid using the home owner's. They should endeavor to quote realistic shipping weights. They should try to be upfront and truthful about their limitations on car shipping. They should shedule their unpackers so that they have enough time and people to properly unpack. The "itemized list" that was made during the move out should be available on the other end. They should try to return customer calls. Scheduling a quote or move-in day should not take several days.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
I would not use this company's services again.

Moved from London to Oshawa

Recently moved my elderly mother from London to Oshawa. Got quotes from different companies and Multicity was significantly less. There were no hidden or unexpected costs. The price quoted was the price billed. The two men who did the move were polite, careful and contributed to a stress free move. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
