PT Lawn Sprinklers Inc

Lui and PT Lawn has been our worst contractor experience ever. Cancelled our job the day before he was supposed to install, leaving us completely in the lurch with new sod scheduled to be installed mere days later.

Here are the facts of our experience with Lui:

1. We were laying down a brand new lawn, so we wanted a sprinkler install that would be between the old sod removal and the new sod installation. We told Luis (and everyone who quoted the sprinkler job) all of this.

2. We formally hired Luis on 9/11/2020 for a 9/25/2020 sprinkler install. The 9/25 date was Luis' idea, based on his work calendar and our preference above. On the same day, we also paid him a 50% deposit.

3. Luis wrote my wife (not me) on the morning of 9/24 to say that he could not do the install, since he had not been able to secure a gas-line locate. Keep in mind, Luis had a full two weeks to secure locates for a sprinkler-install date that he chose!

4. Based on the locate history that Lui sent us, it appears Lui waited a whole week to initiate the locate requests! Wasted a whole week, and then pulls out of the job because he can't get locates!! That is the behavior of nobody I would want to do business with!

Now, Luis will probably claim that he can't control when a locate request is satisfied, but we have pictures and records that prove he had both plenty of runway and that he wasted time in securing any necessary locates. Further, he didn't try to work with us for another install date whatsoever. Just wrote my wife (again, not me) to slink away from the 9/25 install date, leaving us completely out in the cold!!

A sprinkler install is a big job, for which you need a company you can trust. PT Lawn did not prove trustworthy for us.

Update (12/12/2020):

Lui is now threatening to sue me over a factually correct and legitimate review. Everyone considering sprinkler work should think about if this is the kind of contractor that you want to do business with. I know my answer...

Another trick that Lui tried to pull with us regarding this review was asking for the paper copy of our quote/invoice back, so that he could allege with Homestars that we were not a true customer. I suspect that Lui may have tried to suppress negative reviews via this trick before (my opinion). Unfortunately for him, we kept copies of everything and still maintain copies of everything...

PT Lawn Sprinklers Inc has been taking care of our lawn sprinkler system for two years now. I was fortunate to find Luis' company on Homestars after my original contractor went AWOL. Luis arrives when he says he is going to arrive, knows his stuff and charges reasonable prices. He fixed a number of deficiencies relating to the original install from the other contractor, has suggested several improvements all which made perfect sense and did the work for a fair price. He completely deserves all of the 10/10 ratings on this page and I am happy to add mine to the list.

The system was installed about 2 Years ago by Lui in a timely and professional manner. The job done was very impressive. There was no mess or any sort of negative disturbance to the landscape.

The price was reasonable. Since the installation, Lui has been prompt in turning on and off the system during summer and winter months.

I am happy that I chose this company and Luis to do this important job for me.

Fantastic experience with Lui. He is super responsive, listens to requests, did a quick and clean job. We have a large backyard and front so we found the cost very reasonable. I need some work done at my place, and I seen pt lawn sprinklers on line with in mins he returned my call. He answer my questions over the phone and came the following day made some adjustments and noticed I did not have a rain sensor , explained how important it was to have one and he had it in stock I was amazed he is one of the contractors I have dealt with that had everything in stock .. very happy on the service I received and knows his stuff

Great service from Luis, answered my call always, no rescheduling, work done as promised. Part didn’t work but came back to fix it. Would recommend.

Found pt lawn online and had done alot of review research and compared it to other company's made my decision to go with them, louis was very promt,knowledgable and very proffesional.
I'm a first time home owner and wanted to have a sprinkler system installed and after getting quotes with other companys his was by far the best
He installed a new irrigation system with a smart timer and spent his time setting it all up and explaining to me how it works
I have now recommended louis to three of my neighbors who also were very happy about his prices and quality of work.
The next morning louis called me to ensure everything was still in great working order and even stopped by to check and do a once over on everything. He left with my property so clean as if he had not even been there.

We hired Lui after a bad experience with another contractor. He is a very nice person who had great reviews here and seemed knowledgable. We had high hopes that he could renovate our system to a decent quality.

To be fair, our system was quite poorly installed, so there were limitations to what could be done without starting over. That said, the major problems we encountered with Lui were completely under his control.

1. Being accessible. Repeatedly for one reason or another, scheduled work was put off, sometimes for weeks. Only when we called to ask if/when they were coming or for a recommended referral was it ever rescheduled. As I write, it has been over a month since we were told they were coming "next Wednesday" to change a few sprinkler heads. In that time, we've had three additional quotes, chosen a new provider and had work done.

2. The BIG issue - quality of workmanship. Don't go near this company if sloppy work bothers you. The photos attached show what we were left with:
- Exposed wires on the lawn.
- Improperly seated control boxes, sitting so high in the lawn the mower hits them.
- Wires stripped from the control box left hanging all over the place.
- Risers from replaced sprinklers left sticking out of the ground.
We kept hoping the job would be tidied up at the end...no such luck.

Now, if you've read this far, you can expect the contractor to have left a response to this review. It'll probably seek to discredit what's written here, to blame it on the previous contractor or us homeowners for having high expectations. It might even suggest he's done us a favour somehow. But I stress the photos are only of the work done by PT Sprinklers - not of the prior system, which was already poor. Judge for yourself if you want your yard to be littered with the kind of mess in the photos.

We thought hard before posting this review. We know it can impact a business. But after our unfortunate experience of spending good money after bad, we can't in good conscience let anyone else make the same mistake.

After getting quotes from 4 companies, we decided to go with PT Lawn Sprinklers for a few reasons. First, they are priced very fairly and competitively. The materials and explanation of what was being done was equal to or better than other companies that were more expensive. Second, Luis was the only person who came to quote the job that mentioned getting locates done before starting the work, as to ensure that no damage was done to existing wires or pipes from service providers in the area. Lastly, he was the only company to send me a formal quote, with a detailed description of what was being done.
Work was done on the agreed upon date. The crew arrived early and didn’t waste any time. It was completed in one day. Luis will be coming back in 2 weeks to check everything out and ensure that we are happy with everything. Great customer service!
