We had our backyard done this past summer by Action Home Services and we would like to provide some feedback and opportunity for others to read our review. Of note, this is an objective review. My wife and I found AHS through home stars and we were not disappointed.

Our project included a complete renovation of our backyard including:

Demolition:
Removal of all 3 fences
Removal of present interlocking, and currently grass/soil, landscape

New Additions:
New Horizontal Fence
New Composite Deck
New Gas Line for the BBQ
New Electrical for 3 new plugs, 4 stair lights, 4 ground lights, 6 mount lights
1 Patch of grass
Trees, plants around the perimeter of the fence with new soil and mulch
Installation of a Hot Tub (Concrete Pad, hooking up electrical) (Hot tub purchased at Costco)
Small area of interlocking at the entrance

We met with John, the owner of the company around March and he was extremely nice, genuine, and punctual to get an initial quote. He gave his ideas and then we gave our ideas and then he came up with a quote. In regards to quote, we are going to be perfectly honest, it was not cheap. It was roughly around the price we were getting from other companies we found on Homestars. We had to add and remove some things to adjust the price to our budget and then we agreed on the price

We were then connected with Kin (the designer that works with the company) and hands down he is the biggest and best asset of AHS. Kin is extremely personable, passionate, and friendly. He loves what he does and it is evident the first time you meet him. He came up with 2 designs for our backyard and they were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. His designs will blow you out of the water. We picked one of his designs and he walked us through the whole process when it came to which one to pick (also which one he preferred/recommended) and how to make our backyard not only looking nicer but also doing it in a cost efficient way and also in a practical manner. By no means did we ever feel pressured to pay for more or to add anything, in fact, he helped us save a lot of money with other suggestions.

Our project was supposed to start in the middle of June and unfortunately, it was delayed due to Covid. Materials were delayed and so we didn’t started until July. However, with that being said, one of the areas of constructive criticism is communication. When June came around, we had no idea when we were starting or if it was delayed. No one reached out to us. If it wasn’t for us proactively asking Kin, we would have never knew. To be honest, it was not up to Kin to let us know the start date but either John or our project manager Renat. Kin relayed our message to John and he personally called and apologized and talked us through the whole thing which we greatly appreciated.

Once the project started it was extremely smooth. On the first day, I met the project manager Renat who is an extremely nice guy and professional. My only feedback for him is to work on his communication with the client as sometimes it was hard to get in touch with him

The site leader Alex, worked with his main team of Yuri and Jorge. There were also multiple other team members that came throughout the project , but it was these 3 that were here almost on a daily basis.

Aside from Kin, it was Alex, Yuri and Jorge that made this experience amazing. They were extremely nice, personable, down to earth and even spent time getting to know my family, especially my son who just turned 1. Alex would explain everything at the end of the day (what was done, and what will be the next step) He would also let us know if anything was delayed which was appreciated. This team was extremely hard working and worked 10 to 12 hours a day in the blazing heat. Did not complain. The skill level of this team was AMAZING. Our deck looked like it came out of a magazine and they worked really well with Kin to make the design come to life. The craftsmanship of the work is second to no other. A lot of family and friends who have visited us after have praised the work. I would highly recommend this specific team for anyone who is doing their backyard. They work well together and was just a pleasure to be around.

Of note, the project was slightly delayed in finishing for a few days (3 or 4 days). However, we did not mind as Alex was transparent everyday and communicated with us and it was just a pleasure having them come over and seeing them perfect our backyard.

After the project was done, we wanted to add some minor things and also there were a few things that needed to be fixed (e.g. the gate door was getting caught, and there was rust on the new gas line piece). I informed the team and they came by within 1 or 2 days to fix /replace it immediately. This was great customer service and I really appreciated the promptness of fixing anything we were unhappy with. We also wanted to add a few lights and extra stairs after, and the team came back and did this efficiently as well.

So in conclusion, we know this is a long review. However, it is important to for us to share our unbiased views so that others can read and make an informed decision about their backyard. I definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in getting their backyard done. Again, they are not cheap and you get what you pay for. The designer Kin is again one of the best designers we have ever met and his designs are absolutely amazing. His constant communication with us before, during and after the project shows how passionate he is about his work and connecting with his clients. Having him design your backyard is a must. If you do go with AHS, please request for Alex, Yuri and Jorge as your team as they are what made the few weeks a great experience. Communication was key and their crafstmanship was amazing.
