Vinyl Deck

After noticed that one of the posts wasn't completely aligned with the screw pile, we have requested several times to fix this issue before to continue with the project, they promised to do it but never showed. Finally, Deck & Dock Inc. has abandoned the job without finished the project and have collected 65% of the amount agreed for the construction of the deck. They don't respond our communications. We have completed a research with Service Alberta and they are confirmed that Deck & Dock are not a licensed prepaid contractor. Also Deck & Dock have indicated that they have a WCB coverage and we found that they are not registered with WCB Alberta. I don't recommended to anyone to do business with them.

Approximate cost of services:
$17,000.00

Company Response

Would like to clarify a few things from this review that are only worded to try and hurt our reputation due to a residential contract not being fully completed...

We never abandoned the project and always agreed to come back and finish everything as per the original agreement and for the previously agreed upon price. At the time of the project an unfortunate serious health incident happened to our owner and he was hospitalized for many weeks. All customer where notified of the problems occurring and that this may/will cause some major delays in project completions, but for some reason this customer chose not to listen or just didn't believe us. They then proceeded to submit false statements and public defamation of our very reputable company name. As you can see all our customer have always given us 10/10 rating as we always go above and beyond to try and keep all out customers with the best possible opinion of D&D Inc.

Once the claims where made by the customer of course the situation change and we tried to part ways in a fair and friendly way ("Abandoned"). Leaving the customer the final 35% payment to have another contractor finish the project for them. After normal rates they would of ended up saving close to $1000 in their pocket and we figured this was the proper/fair to leave the contract.

They are correct in saying we are not a licensed Alberta prepaid contractor meaning we dont have a Alberta Business Licence rather only a City of Calgary Licence and also may other city and town Licences around Alberta. An Alberta Prepaid contractors license is only required when you ask for Deposit payments in advance to work. Our payments are structured in a progress payment style meaning you are only paying for the work being performed at that time and not in advance. Even after the first payment of booking, this cost covers all the work performed upfront i.e. deck, landscape, etc design work, pricing and project planning which all is completed prior to any payments being made. Just wanted to clarify so people know we ARE a licensed contractor.

As for WCB, this customer tried to secure a "Clearance" letter from our WCB policy which is not required for residential deck contracts. So when doing so they of course came up empty handed as we do not need to add them to our WCB Policy to complete the jobs, but this does not mean we dont have coverage?!? Employees safety is one of our top concerns and take this very seriously. Also having a 5 million dollar liability commercial coverage plan which is far above most standard contractors.

Unfortunately after being in business for close to 15+ year we have learned that no matter what you do somethings situations occur and you can only do your best to try and resolve. When any customer is left happy and without a complete project we of course feel very poorly but we can only move forward and prove that we dont receive 10/10 for no reason.
