Moving from Mississauga to Orillia

The actual moving men were excellent, very careful and polite. However, they confronted us with a statement that if they don't take extra time ( a lot of time) to carefully wrap items, I would be required to sign a waiver against damage of those items. The move was estimated by Hercules to cost about 2,000.00. It ended up costing 4,100.00.

Obviously, the company wants the business, estimates very low and then in effect coerces you to pay more to protect against damage. If this had cost 500.00 more, I would not complain, but 2,000.00 more? I don't believe this was an accident.

That said, the movers were very careful and my complaints are in regards to the gross underestimation of their services by Hercules admin personnel.

Approximate cost of services:
$4,100.00

Company Response

Hello Wren,

Thank you for taking the time write your review. We would like to address some of the issues you have expressed in your review.

1) You are correct, we do ask all of our clients to sign a liability waiver if they choose to not have their items wrapped with blankets. The reasoning for this is quite simple: if furniture items are not properly protected with padding, they are exposed to the environment and consequently are more susceptible to damage. Thus, for clients who choose not to have their furniture packed and padded with blankets to protect against damage, we ask that they sign a liability waiver to protect the company against any damaged furniture claims.

The only additional costs associated with having your furniture padded is the additional time it will take to wrap the furniture with the blankets.

The waiver is there to give our clients the option of having their furniture wrapper, or not wrapped. We don't believe that this constitutes coercion.

2) When providing the estimate for the move, your wife informed us that many of the things in your list would be sold off by the time of the move. As a result, we allowed for a shorter time estimate for the move, based on the fact that there would be fewer belongings than you had mentioned in the original submission for your quote.

3) From the very beginning, our moving coordinators suggested that you use at least 5 movers and 2 trucks for your move. Your wife was convinced that 2 movers and one truck will be enough. In the end she agreed to 4 movers and two trucks, which was still not enough due to the size of the move. On the day of the move we ended up sending an additional 2 movers at a premium, due to it being a last minute request. Not only did this cost you more money, it wasted a lot of time. Had you agreed to 5 movers to begin with, there is no reason why the move could not have been completed in 10-12 hours, and within budget.

Please feel free to contact us if you’d like to discuss this issue further.

Yours truly,

Hercules Moving Company.
