Atrocious

Arcoat was contracted to perform renovations on the home that we purchased. During the course of renovations, faulty plumbing was installed in one of the upstairs bathrooms and subsequently the leak caused water damage and mould to develop in one of the lower level rooms. The owner Carlos, was notified of the issue and they came to repair the faulty plumbing lines but refused to acknowledge the water and mould damage despite clear evidence of the issue. A mould inspector was then hired to come and perform testing which confirmed what we already knew. A report with the results was then given to the contractor but they still continued to refuse acknowledgement of the issue. We ended up paying out of pocket to remediate the issue and repair the damaged room, some of which was performed by myself to save costs. We then sought legal counsel on the matter and offered to settle the issue out of court, but the contractor continued to deny responsibility for the issue -- dodging phone calls, emails and letters from our lawyer's office for weeks, then months. We ended up suing them in court and won the lawsuit but then came to find out that the company closed their doors, leaving us with no recourse for the damages. Completely dishonest and irresponsible, this is the kind of company that gives general contractors a negative stereotype. Would advise anyone refrain from working with Carlos in the future in whatever shape or form he ends up in next.

**Update: We have now discovered more issues with this home during the renovation process that was performed by Arcoat / PBIC / Redefine. The home that we purchased has an open concept after removal of several walls during the course of renovations. However, the load bearing walls that were removed were then not properly supported leading to structural issues with the house. We had this confirmed by an engineering firm and have had to undertake extensive costs to remediate the issue out of pocket. Completely irresponsible behaviour by this company, made worse by the fact that they built a stub wall to simulate the look of a support beam, which in fact was not supported whatsoever. I cannot stress enough that this company is dangerous to work with and will put you and the occupants of your home at risk.
