Range Hood Replacement

Joel replaced our basement range hood (with a more powerful model). He was professional, careful and did excellent work. He gave good advice particularly via SMS while I chose a hood range to purchase online. He provided some good advice on backdrafting and ventilation. At the start, he estimated $188, as long as it was only a couple hours of work. At the end, he charged us a fair price. He did great work and would happily hire him again.

Approximate cost of services:
$164.00

Company Response

I'm happy to hear that you liked my work. The low output hood fan definitely needed to be upgraded. That will no doubt make a positive difference for evacuating cooking gasses.

Range Hood Replacement, Bit Expensive

Joel replaced our basement range hood (with a more powerful model). He was professional, careful and did good work. He gave good advice particularly via SMS while I chose a hood range to purchase online. He provided some good advice on backdrafting and ventilation. My only complaint is that the price was a little high and not what he originally quoted.

Regarding the price, he said about $150 on the phone. In person, he said $188 was his minimum price and it would probably be $188 if it only took a couple hours. It took <2h and he charged $264. That's $132/hour for a fairly basic install job. He claimed 3h including travel time. I provided the hood range and some foam tape to help seal the duct and he provided some foil tape. That price seems a little high to me.

I feel like he kind of broke his agreement and wasn't up-front about the cost. It wasn't an entirely unreasonable fee, just a bit expensive and not what he said at the start. Next time, I plan to make a firmer agreement on the price in advance eg a fixed fee for the whole job, a time estimate and a fixed hourly rate if it goes over.

Overall, he did good work and I might hire him again.
