Bathroom Reno

My husband and I wish we were able to give a decent review for Red Oaks Construction but the fact is that we are deeply disappointed, angry and confused by the recent work done in our main floor bathroom. We would strongly recommend NOT hiring this company to do a bathroom renovation. We feel that the amount we paid does not justify the sloppy and rushed work that was provided.

We both approached Adam about the concerns we had and there was absolutely no acknowledgement from him what so ever as to how messy a job this ended up being. You would think hiring a professional to work on your home would garner some standard of quality however we did not receive any level of what we were hoping for. The work was at best amateur and in the end looks as if it was someone working on a bathroom for the first time. We were told that he had a lot of experience doing bathrooms and our job would be no big deal. We had seen photos on his Instagram account and family members vouched for his experience; which is why we are so confused by what we ended up with.
At a quick glance you see the nice tiles, nice cabinet, nice fixtures…but as you stand in there and look at the work you quickly come to understand the disappointment. My husband could have done a better job. We had another contractor come in to assess the work and they were surprised that we were charged the amount that we paid. He said the work was “very poor” and it looked as if they had no prior experience. We did make the rookie mistake of paying Adam upfront and did not receive any money back. We were actually sent a follow up invoice 3 weeks after us trying to get a hold of him for a fair partial refund and instead we were hit with an outstanding owing amount. We feel he did this to justify not giving us what we wanted back and reflects poorly on him as a business owner.
The following outlines everything that is dis-satisfactory;
- Our bathroom was stripped to stud so the opportunity for straight walls was possible. Our walls are not straight, they are bowed and you can see it when looking at the tile work and the door frame. Our vanity mirror doesn’t sit properly because of this as well. Having been advised by the other contractor, this could have been easily addressed after the demolition.
- There are many spots where the mosaic floor was not applied flat. Many pieces stick out and you can actually see lines running across, showing where the individual mosaic tiles meet. You can also really feel this while walking bare foot. A new sub-floor was installed so this shouldn’t have been an issue.

- The floor was grouted after the vanity and toilet were installed. This is not acceptable practice.
This resulted in grout being poorly applied near the vanity, and extra grout around the base of the toilet. All resulting in sloppy unprofessional results.
- The shower niche is off center and very messy. The tile work on the wall is messy. Different thicknesses of grout throughout and many tiles do not sit at the same level.
- The wainscoting details at the top are sloppily cut
- The excessive amounts of caulking is messy and unnecessary. It’s obvious that the caulking was a last approach to try to hide the poorly cut tiles at each corner.
- Tiles were dry cut in the house; not wet cut. Resulted in dust all over the house and messy cuts on the trimmed tile.
- Minor scratches to toilet, tub and cabinet.
- There was damage to the walls shared with the bathroom. There was no reason for such aggressive work. The back wall of our son’s closet was cut through and this was never addressed by Adam after we repeatedly brought this discovery to his attention after moving back into the house.
Just to clarify when we did speak with Adam we were willing to allow him to try to clean up some of the work however because of his attitude we decided to fire him.
