Clogged sinks are always inconvenient. Having a plumber come to clear it is sometimes necessary but there are some things you can do as a homeowner to prevent this type of clog.
1. Be careful what you put down there. I know this sounds obvious, but things like coffee grounds are surprisingly a common problem.
2. Use a sink strainer all the time.
3. Use a lot of hot water when rinsing things down the sink. Use more than you think you will need. Some drains have a long way to go before they reach the main line and just like a river they drop debris along the way as the water out paces the debris in it.Of course there are times when build-up is unavoidable.
