Called a few companies and the only one that actually answered was AC Appliance (a couple called hours later, but they were too late.). Rick asked what was the problem, said he could come that day. Showed up on time calling to say he was on the way. Explained the problem and gave a couple of choices and did what I asked within a few minutes. Machine works fine now,

Rick came early as a favour because my wife is pregnant and fixed my dishwasher. He's now fixed 2 of my appliances!

I requested an appointment with Ac Appliance Repair on Homestars on the weekend and Rick replied right away to schedule an appointment. Today, he and his son arrived at my home bringing with them the likely needed parts. They expertly disassembled the dryer, diagnosed the problem (a defective heating element) and had it working again in less than an hour. They also did some preventative maintenance (oiling parts and cleaning accumulated lint). I was impressed and will recommend them to friends and neighbours.
