Would not recommend Absolute Blinds & Shutters

We decided to order custom blinds from a reputable manufacturer and get everything measured and installed by an authorized dealer. We were hoping for a stress-free project and to avoid the possibility of mismeasuring. Our experience with Absolute Blinds and Shutters was one to forget and we would not recommend them. The initial contact with the salesperson was promising but things quickly fell apart once we began working with the installer, who is also the owner. Once our blinds were delivered and installed, we noticed the bay window was slightly short by 1-2 inches and it was very difficult to get Absolute Blinds and Shutters to acknowledge it and correct the issue. Throughout this project communication was difficult, and we were often met with dismissive comments and ridicule. To solve the issue, we had to contact the regional office directly and thankfully they were quick to investigate and help put this experience behind us. The blind manufacturer produces fine products and has stellar customer service, we just wished we opted to go with a different authorized dealer in Absolute Blinds and Shutters.

Approximate cost of services:
$5,800.00

Company Response

This review is untrue...

After completing the installation of several shades. The clients stated that they were happy with everything and gave me the go ahead to send them the invoice for the balance payment.

The next morning I received an email that they had a concern about gaps of one of the shades. I returned the same day and performed an adjustment. Again, I was told they were happy and acknowledged the challenge of the installation on a bay window.

Two more days later, I get another email and I return the same day. I immediately offered a remake (wider shade) without issue but explained they would have to pay the difference of my cost.

I then explained to the client that the balance was due at least for the remaining shades… and that is when things went downhill.

The client started repeating over and over again that in Canada, they have 30 days to make a payment, which is completely false.

The client was aware of the payment terms, which was also stated net 30 terms on their invoice which was already several days past due.

When the clients continued to argue, I explained that I would remove the newly installed shades equaling the amount owing until the balance was paid since they were still the property of the business.

After doing so, I called the regional Hunter Douglas representative while I was still on site and the client refused to have a calm discussion and was more interested in making false statements to a customer service representative.

To be fair, Hunter Douglas did talk to the client but did not get involved in the transaction.

The resolution that the client is thankful for was my proposal that they would promptly pay the balance owing for all the other remaining shades (the original request) and the balance of the remake shade when it arrived.

They agreed and now 2 months later, they are reviewing bombing my business anywhere they can.
