I was screwed....The Harding Way

On Wed, April 11, 2012, my 5 yrs old Amana furnace stopped working. I investigated a bit and traced the problem back to a seized inducer motor which was still under warranty. I called the installers of the furnace (Harding Heating and Air Conditioning) who confirmed that the motor was still under warranty. Upon arrival, I took the Harding technician to the basement and pointed to the motor. He wiggled it a bit and confirmed that that was the problem. He then proceeded to replace the defected motor and presented me a bill of $79 for labor + $255 for materials. He claimed that the $255 is for labor but that's not what the bill says. The bill clearly show $255 as materials charge in 2 places. I tried my best to reason with the technician regarding the $255 charge with no luck. I paid the $255 + $79 plus taxes totaling $378 for ~ 10 minutes of labor because I did not want my kids to freeze and I advised him that I'll be calling Harding to file a complaint. I called Harding 4 times and tried to speak to the service managers but no one is returning my calls. I don't understand the 255+tax charge, if it's materials as per their receipt then it's a violation as materials are still under warranty. If it's labor then it's a gross overcharge for a 10 minutes 3 screws job & I have already paid the $79 for.

P.S. I'm planing to launch a formal complaint with the BBB & Amana Canada.

Approximate cost of services:
$378.00
