Roof replacement

we wanted to do our roof before selling our house, its a 4 house townhouse. So we were called back by someone called Diego. he asked on phone what was the color of the roof, because i did not know, he said take a photo and send me. i texted him the photo and told him to make sure that the color matches as it a 4 house townhouse. he came to my house to make me sign the contract. as a good salesman, he recommended to take the premium shingles as there there is life time guarantee. Even though i am selling my house, as a proud home owner i decided to take the offer and pay more to get the premium . i paid 3,450$ for the roof, again he was advised to make sure that the colour match. He saw the colour. The roofers came on d day and start to work on the roof. they completed the job and a quality controller even spoke to my wife advising he is going on the roof to check the work done and they left. When i came home after work in the afternoon to my big amazement... the color does not match! just by placing the 1st shingle, it was obvious the color did not match, then why did they continue! my wife was home, NO ONE advise the colour is not right. even the supposedly quality controller never mentioned this discrepancy. Immediately, I emailed the photo to diego asking him to rectify this as the condo management will not accept this color as it was too obvious. he said its ok, he will speak to the condo management himself and asked me for address to go meet them in person.
i received several registered legal letters from the condo management to change the roof colour asap. i had to call Diego several times, he never pick up his phone and if he did, he would said, i will call back and hang up and never calls back. this became an urgent issue as i had sold the house in that week and the seller was going to walk out if the issue was not address immediately. i called the professional roofers office to speak to a supervisor or manager. after several calls, my wife called and got to speak to a supervisor (rude) and she told my wife i have 3 other people waiting here, i will have to call you back and never did. so we called again and got to speak to a supposedly manager named Oscar. after reviewing the contract and speaking to diego on other line, he said its YOUR fault, you signed contract for premium shingles which is different color! he said if you want to redo your roof, someone is going to pay for this. my wife was telling him but we never asked to change the colour. He said its in your contract, if you want to redo the roof you will have to pay again and ill make discount to pay 2,600$!!! that was unbelievable! my wife told him we will not pay and that we will get our lawyer and Oscar voice tone changed and he said, don`t threaten me with legal matter, i too know lawyer, it will take you years to get what you are asking! wow !
my wife broke down she could not believe it, then to soften the matter, Oscar said let me put u on hold and see what we can do here. he came back saying the roof has to be done and someone has to pay it, so this is the deal i have for you, you pay half of $2,600 in CASH. no new or other contract will be issued. i had to accept as the selling date on my house has been confirmed. they came, did the roof with right colour and took $1300 in cash, no receipt from them! The supervisor who took the cash said we dont issue a receipt, may be in 3 or 4 days you will get a paperwork, which i never did, i had to draft a receipt stating i am paying professional roofer $1,300 in cash. the only mistake i did was to read all the 5* reviews on Professional Roofers! beware dont make same mistake always read the 1* also, they dont deserve even a 1*!!!

Hello and thank you for voicing your concerns to us. While we are disappointed with the way things turned out, especially given the fact we did 4 of your neighbours in your townhouse complex with the correct specifications they were told to request, we do not feel a 0 out of 10 is a fair review. You originally contacted us with regards to wind damage, so when you signed with us we came right away at no charge to give you a free temporary repair until the roof installation date. Given you had wind damage you agreed to have the high wind rated shingles installed, this was the primary error as everyone in the complex was given a letter by the board to use IKO or CRC Dual Brown 25 year Shingles instead and that every contract of renovation on the house MUST be approved prior, your property manager had already indicated that the high wind rated shingles regardless of matching colour would have had to been replaced as well. After speaking with Farisha who is your property manager at Maple Ridge Community Management and your other neighbours, it was confirmed everyone had received a letter indicating to them which shingles were necessary to request. Some townhouses are freehold and others are governed by a townhouse board, the onus is on you to take the proper due diligence to know whether you are authorized to hire a contractor with or without proper permissions from a governing board or management. While you have failed to get this work approved prior to us coming, we gave you a discount once the job was completed and even came back on a Saturday when our workers usually have their day off. Your property manager had indicated to us you were 100% at fault for not following guidelines or requesting the proper authorization prior of the commencement of work scheduled. We had provided you a quote at cost which was agreed on for us to come back to redo the roof, up until the day prior there was no issue and Diego had tried to reach you several times that day through SMS and calls to no avail until your wife had contacted him to indicate you would not be paying on the agreed price anymore which was below cost for us. We have tried to resolve this manner as best we can, we are sorry for your complaint and want you to know we did the best we can. You are welcome to contact us to further discuss this matter.
