Got Rid of the Mice in the Attic Myself

On the phone Paul said he would make the attic mouse-proof and block the entry ways where they get in. I was sceptical but he sounded confident. Hell, I couldn't even get Paul to go into the back yard to look at how they might get in back there, even though we heard mice in the attic back there.

He set traps and they filled up with mice, he came back and filled the traps again. Then I guess it wasn't worth his while to keep a good name for himself and called it quits. So I paid about $30/mouse for the number of successful traps he set.

He blocked a few possible entrance points but didn't come close to mouse-proofing anything. Paul clearly got tired of coming back when I called again and again during the "1 year guarantee" saying we still heard mice up there. The last trap he set in the attic is still there with a dead mouse in it (thanks for that Paul) - he couldn't get out of here fast enough. Waste of my good money.

Now I just set the tamper proof bait stations all around the outside of the house. Gets the job done and saved me about $300. A lesson learned.

Approximate cost of services:
$350.00

Company Response

Hello Unimpressed in Whitby,

Your review is puzzling to us. Our standard guarantee for mice is 6 months. We very rarely, if ever, offer a 1 year guarantee. Also, it is part of our routine to check the entire perimeter of the house for mouse entry points. So I can't think of why it would be that we would not go into your backyard to check for entry points, especially if requested.

Our practice is to accept payment after 4 services, depending on the severity of the situation. Most mouse problems are solvable within that framework. However, if a serious mouse problem has developed over time, we might plan for even more visits, or leave one or 2 traps behind on the last service. And of course, within the guarantee period, we will come back at our expense if the homeowner hears or sees more mice. Understandably, this is always an inconvenience for both us and the homeowner and requires the full cooperation of the homeowner as well.

May I just add that the use of tamper free bait boxes around the perimeter of the outside of the house is a concern, as they serve to draw even more mice toward the poisonous food contained in the boxes. After that, poisoned and dead mice might be scattered about (or in) your home, left to be eaten by other animals, birds, and pets. And of course, the stench of dead mice will attract flies. This is a potential health issue.

Even if your guarantee time is up, I hope you will not hesitate to contact us. We would like an opportunity to make sure you mouse problem is solved cleanly.

Regards,
Paul
