we had our condo's old (original) fuse box replaced with a new, switch type panel, by Captain Electric.
We were pleasantly surprised at how quick and hassle-free the conversion was.
We love the convenience of the switch type. No more fuses to mess with!
Your electrician left us with a clearly marked listing of what each switch on the panel controlled, which we didn't have before.
The panel also has some extra switches, if we make electrical additions to our home.
Needless to say, when that day comes, we will be calling Captain Electric.
Thanks and Best Wishes Always,

Thank you John and Judy. We were happy to have been of service, and be able to update your old fuse panel to modern circuit breakers. A detailed panel directory is something that we leave with every homeowner. The extra circuit spaces that are available will definitely be of value should you decide to add recessed lighting or under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, or take on other renovations.
We look forward to being of service again in the future .......bw

Knob & Tube Removal- Rewire Project

When initially looking for an electrical contractor in the Oshawa area, I visited the Homestars website on the Internet. I read good accounts from people that had hired Captain Electric. And felt like they'd be a good fit for my job, too.
In order to qualify for my Home Insurance, I needed to have all of the old knob-and-tube wiring in my 30's-era house removed. Enrico came by and did a quick estimate of the costs, including options for additional outlets and lights throughout the house..
He and his crew performed quick and admirable work. They were always on time, and acted completely professional at all times. I would easily recommend them to anyone looking for quality electrical contracting work!

Thanks Rich, we appreciate your comments. Insurance Companies are well aware of the potential problems with Knob and Tube Wiring. Being an older system, there are a number of issues . . . The system is ungrounded, insulation is often cracked, deteriorated or falling off, and the wiring has been modified (new wiring spliced into the old K&T wiring is an especially serious situation). Also - K&T wiring was designed to dissipate heat through "free air" and is not rated to be in contact with thermal insulation (many older homes with K&T wiring have had insulation blown in and is contacting the K&T). There are many reasons why replacing K&T wiring is the ONLY safe solution. You can now be assured that your home is safe with a modern wiring system. We look forward to being of service again sometime. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric ........... bw

firea alarm replacement

I have been a customer of Captain Electric for about 10 years and 2 homes. Whenever I call them I can count on prompt and courteous service, Recently my hard-wired fire alarms started chirping; I placed a service call at about noon and the fire alarms were replaced same afternoon. A couple of days later one of them was replaced as it was defective. I highly recommend the team at Captain Electric; they are a pleasure to work with!

Thank you "cotonluv." Smoke Alarms can be irritating when they malfunction. Yours were in need of replacement due to age. We replaced them with new Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarms, and they all tested correctly. But - Sometimes even newly installed products can fail after a few days, (which happened in your case), and of course we needed to replace this for you as quickly as possible. Thank you for posting your review, and we will see you again, next time .......... bw

Condo Emergency

The washing machine mysteriously stopped working, so I went to reset the circuit-breaker, then POOF! I lost all power in my Markham Condo unit. My building superintendent did what he could to restore power, but in the end wasn't fully successful. Not wanting the food in my freezer to go bad and getting my life back to normal asap, I looked up Captain Electric in the YellowPages! A quick google search confirmed that I made the correct choice (based on HomeStars reviews). Dianne was able to get me a same day appointment with electrician Dan. Let me tell you... DAN is awesome! He had to endure working in a cramped environment and dealing with the Condo Management's bureaucracy to make sure I got the proper diagnostic and fix! He also let me know what he was doing every step of the way. Thanks to Dan I'm up and running again!

Electrical service

Hired Captain Electric for surge protection installation in our home and very much satisfied with their service. Seriously, their people are awesome! I tried calling several other electricians but only these guys answered the phone in time. In fact, they came the same day I called them and did a quick and outstanding service. They were very knowledgable and responsive too. I would definitely call these guys up again for any electrical need in future.

Hi Linda, thank you for your review. It is important to us that our clients are very happy with the work that we do for them. Leaving a home in good condition when we are finished is part of the experience. When a job is completed, other than your new pot lights and switches - there should be no evidence that any work was done. All debris should be thoroughly cleaned up and removed from site. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we hope to see you again whenever you need electrical service........... bw

Sorry for the delay on this - much to do in setting up our new home! Following is my review of the work completed by Captain Electric - Enrico, Dave, and Kevin in particular:

From the time Enrico came to assess the cost of the panel upgrade as well as factor in several “small” upgrades, we knew we had chosen the best. First impressions are important and Enrico represented the Company admirably, giving us full assurance the work would be completed to our utmost satisfaction. Indeed, it was!
Once the work commenced we simply relaxed knowing that Dave, Kevin and Enrico were in control. Courtesy and consideration were both evident during the whole time they were here. Their workmanship was superb and their ensuring the work areas were left clean and tidy were indicative of the extra care they took. All projects were completed safely and expeditiously, including the tricky fishing of wires through difficult areas in the house! We recommend Captain Electric without reservation to anyone considering having any electrical work carried out. They really are the best! Thanks again, guys!
