I had a different company for many years come out and on their last check I was told than I had leaks from the bottom of my tank as well as the valve. They recommended replacing the hot water tank, and gave me a quote of over $3200 with discount for their plan membership for a 40 gallon tank. They said that fixing the valve could work and may last awhile with just that. I was also told my expansion tank was dead, and would be $550 to replace it.
I contacted Knight after this to see if their price was comparable. Knight said a new 50 gallon tank installed would be $1599. The expansion tank would also be able to be replaced for around $350. I decided to have Knight come out. They came the next day. I was told that the valve was leaking, but that was all the issue was, there was no need to replace the tank. Knight replaced the expansion tank and replaced the valve on the hot water tank. This cost $560, the cost for the other company to do just the expansion tank basically.
I have found that my water is hotter than ever, and no sign of any leak. I am very satisfied with the service and the honesty. He could have easily just replaced the tank and I would have still have been happy, but I saved my money. And never felt pressured to do more.
