Toilet Repair

Had the tech come out, charged a $40 dispatch fee before they would
even look at it. While the tech came out very promptly and gave me a
concise and fast quotation, their prices were way out of line.

$323.53 for a new fill valve
$215.69 for a new flapper valve

I realize that these prices include labour, but this comes to a
total of $539.22. A quote for a new toilet was $800-ish.

Don't expect a bargain from this company. Due to the high quote on
the work, I didn't get this work done.

Approximate cost of services:
$540.00

Company Response

Thanks for the comment Mr. Bennett. Although I wouldn't say "don't expect a bargain" at Clearview, we always have promotions, coupons and monthly deals that are easily available. I would, however, say "don't expect a cheap-o job from Clearview" - we don't do cheap. When you're looking for "Cheap" it's never restricted to price - you get what you pay for and the quality would also be cheap. Earl's and McDonalds both sell burgers - one is cheap, one isn't. I bet you can figure out which is which! We certainly don't aspire to meet the cheap contractors in their race to the bottom for the lowest price. You claim we overprice? We say most companies under price, which is why there's such a high turnover of small plumbing companies in town - they can't afford to keep their doors open (have fun trying to get warranty work done by a dissolved company - take a look at 2009 vs 2010 vs 2011 plumbing yellow pages, you'll see.) We're typically within 10-15% of our closest competitors (of course, we're talking apples to apples flat rate companies here, not a "one man and a van" company) and not always higher than them. Our prices are out of line? According to who and who's overhead? I can appreciate that at your business, where we quoted the toilet install, your main objective is cutting costs, streamlining procurement and supply chain processes, but it just isn't apples to apples. We keep one dime out of every dollar that we make on site, the rest goes to $2 million in liability insurance, drug, security and background checks for our technicians, offering 24 hour service, and making sure our trucks are tip top so we can make those calls that you book in. The question you need to ask yourself is "if a company is substantially cheaper, where are they cutting corners?". We charge premium prices for premium service and the peace of mind of having a company thats been around for 14 years (and will be around for many more) taking care of and warrantying your problems. Thanks for the review, sorry we couldn't help you out, best of luck finding a bargain company to fit your budget!
