Leather Sectional

The Good:

I read all the negative reviews and was concerned that my wife wanted to buy a 4 piece sectional from them. I do woodwork as a hobby and was concerned about the construction of the sectional. After finding out who the actual manufacturer was (that was like pulling teeth) and also looking at the floor model construction I was satisfied that it was not poorly made. My wife ordered the leather she wanted and we were told that it would take about 6 months before it was made and ready.

It came in about 6 months ( a little longer) and I was at home for the delivery. The contracted delivery guys were OK. They carried my pieces upstairs and placed them where I wanted them. I looked at the leather and it looked great, no damage or flaws.

The BAD

The sectional came with 2 electronic reclining seats (one was a lounger and the other the standard type of reclining chair). I went to plug them in to test them before I signed the OK paperwork that the delivery guys needed. The AC plugs were european not North American. I asked the guys if they left the adapters in the truck and they said it didnt come with any. So now I am pissed. I wait 6 months for sectional and I cant plug in the reclining chairs. The drivers calls Mobilia customer service and they say that it will be taken care of. I sign-off and drivers go.

THE UGLY:

Once the drivers are gone I look at the power supply rating that is on the underside of the recliner and notice that it is good for 110V to 230V. I think, great - all I need is a couple $2.00 adqaters from the local electronics store (converts european plug to NA plug). I go and buy 2 and plug the first one in and the longer works like a charm. Plug the second one in and nothing happens although I hear the motor running. I turn the chair over and see that the electronic piston assembly hinges are snapped off the chair on both ends. The hinge supports were made of plastic - totally ridculous!

I call Mobilia and also send pictures (still same day as delivery). They already knew about the wrong plugs and I told them I had no way of knowing the recliner mnotor was damaged until I got the right plugs. I wait a couple of weeks for a service person (contracted but very helpful) to come out and look at the parts that I know are broken.

He orders new parts through Mobilia - I wait 6 months for new part. New part is wrong part! It does not fit at all (not the contractors fault as he ordered the model number that was on the unit).

He removes the old broken part and says that it will be sent away to ensure the right part comes. I wait another 4 or 5 months and part comes in minus the hinge pins that were removed from the old one.

So I have the right part but not the hardware to install it! I looked at the pictures that I had on my PC from about a year before and said that they were pretty standard pins and locks that held the hinges in place. I said he could get them at Canadain Tire or PArts source. He got the OK from Mobilia to get me the pins from there (if they had not I would have told him to leave the motor with me and I would do dit myself...). He went got some pins, hooked it up and it worked... except..... the recliner foot rest would not come all the way out!

I was about to snap! We turned the chair over again and we noticed that there were some wire rods that seemed to be preventing the chair from fully reclining. I said they looked like they were there to keep the unit secure during shipping. He was not sure but I said I would be back in a moment. I went to my workshop, got some heavy duty pliers and bent the rods of that were holding the footrest in place.

We tried it out and it worked like a charm!

After a year my sectional is now the way it should be!

Would I buy from Mobilia again? Probably only if I bought something that they had in stock. There sales people are friendly (At least ours was) but they wipe their hands clean after the sale. Their customer service is poor.

Approximate cost of services:
$8,000.00
