Warranty Department it Awful

I'm convinced the warranty department of sterling homes is bonused on how many phone calls they avoid... if you don't call the customer back then you don't spend money to fix it. We leave message after message with no return calls. 6 months after my 1 year inspection I still have outstanding issues and no one will call me back.

They literally cut corners - the outside corners in my home spilt with settling. Which is totally normally easy fix with some mud and tape. Apparently sterlings contractors think that silicone is an even easier fix. Oh and painting over wet silicone is even better. They did a crap job and it looks awful - brought this to the attention of the warranty person and they "trust their contractor and it's an acceptable fix". Which is funny because in the warranty
binder we were provided it actually advices
against using silicone. I'd bring that point up
with Chris but well he lacks the ability to return calls...

Everyingthing

hi there, so I have moved in my house on September 29, 2016 and everything with my house I seemed like me and my wife got the most terrible service reason being cause almost everything we told sterling to change hasn't really been done, the sold sign had not even been up when we bought the house, there was no protection on the back door so if we opened it we would fall, our neighbour just got there keys has the wood on the back door for protection and know that our neighbour had gotten treated better than we did and money had been missing which no one knows where that is. I am just frustrated and upset because no one had no clue what is going on here. i will not be recommening sterling to anyone i know because of this.

Quality??

Since day one this house has been nothing short of a nightmare. Most recently my roof has began to leak, pooling water above the ensuite bathroom and leaking through the drywall. Crawled into the attic space to find a lovely growth of black mould festering on the roof osb sheathing as well as most of the sheathing soaked through under the shingles and making the insulation wet. now I get to play the waiting game of how long it will take to "fix".

Terrible At Fixing Their Mistakes

My wife and I, a young couple, bought our first home in 2015. We decided to go with Sterling because we liked the floor plan. 2 years in and it has been the worst experience I could have imagined. Problem after problem with building quality but the worst part is, their warranty team is very rude, slow and unhelpful. Most recently, our roof leaked. They came up with "weatherstripping the attic hatch" as a solution and I knew that wasn't the problem so I hired a home inspector to give his advice. I forwarded his advice to them and I have been blatantly ignored for weeks. Now I have to waste my time and get New Home Warranty involved when all they have to do is fix their mistake. (Their mistake was the vapour barrier is installed incorrectly) DO NOT BUY A STERLING HOME, YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Warranty people NEVER return emails/phone calls

I have had nothing but issues dealing with the warranty department at Sterling. I have sent multiple emails and left multiple messages and I have not received any response. The latest issue I am dealing with was that my roof was leaking, and water had pooled in a light fixture on my second floor. There is also a water stain on the ceiling around the light. I called and as usual, no one answered. I left a message explaining the situation and asked if I could have someone take a look at my roof and attic to make sure there's no water damage as it's likely there is. As always, no one called me back. A few days later my wife calls me freaking out because there are people on my roof! I get her to take pictures and let me know the name of the company. I contact the company and they inform me that they were contracted by Sterling to fix my roof. No one told me someone was coming to fix my roof. No one told me someone was coming at all!! I never received a call or email back about having someone checking for water damage and still I have not heard anything from them. Now I am having leaking along the wall in my basement and I'm dreading trying to contact them again. I'm so sick of Sterling and I really really regret buying from them!!!

I still need someone to check if there's water damage in my ceiling. Why am I being ignored?

Another thing I remember is that I told the warranty inspector that my daughter's rooms are extremely cold in the winter (the walls are nearly iced) and I was told that it's because they are over the garage and I should just turn on my garage heater. Are you kidding me??!! Stay away from Sterling if you want any sort of help after your purchase.

Duplex Disaster

My husband and I were so excited to be buying our first home. The sales people were excellent and the show home was beautiful. We purchased our lot January 2014 and moved in October 2016. There was no quality control done on our home, and that's where our issues begin. Every corner in our home separate, there were four studs that bowed out, our driveway and garage floor cracked, a crack formed along our fireplace, the painting and drywall was hideous, doors and door frames had cracks, granite countertops had a chip, the bathtub plug was rusted, separation occurred between out walls and ceilings, the carpet guys cut along the baseboards and didn't repair it, light fixture was broken, light aS falling from outside garage, siding had gaps, wood on front porch cracked, draft coming in the front door, carpet lifting...must I continue. Yes, this was covered under warranty and after 5 scheduled repairs we are about half way done. However, I have been trying to contact my warranty technician for about a month now and we can't. We will be at our one year mark in two days but have not had our one year warranty visit because our warranty technician gas disappeared. I have missed days of work ($$$) and wasted time sitting here waiting for tradespeople to come and repair all of our issues. If you're looking for a quality home, look somewhere other than Sterling homes. The salespeople are great and will make the buying process easy and comfortable, but if you want to live in an aesthetically pleasing home Sterling is not for you! We were told once by our warranty technician that one of our issues was only aesthetics so they won't do anything about it...the reason we bought new was so we didn't need to do repairs and so it would be pretty. Didn't happen.

Building flaw

My duplex was built in 2010. There will always be small flaws in the building process, although some major flaws can affect enjoyment of a home. I understand that being a duplex I share a wall, but the fact that I can hear my neighbors talking is outrageous! I literally feel like we are in the same room, it's worse than living in an apartment noise wise. I have been in duplexes built by other builders and they do not have this issue. Never again Sterling! Very disappointed!!

Dream home disaster

Very bad experience from the day, they poured the footing of house, -25 with wind chills and they poured it without heating and hoarding, violation of building code , walls started to crack because of poor quality workmanship , grade beam was run over by zoom boom and crushed , basement settled 2 inches because they backfill led with material full of frost and never bothered to defrost it, had to replace a quarter of basement slab, garage floor cracked all over the place due to frosted material used as fill, when they replaced the garage floor there was about 9" void underneath because of the settlement, I even warned them at each step but
they ignored it claiming they build hundreds of houses every year and they know what they are
doing, driveway started scaling after first winter
and the tried to blame road salts for it when the
walkway next to driveway was subjected to same conditions and had no scaling.
I am thinking of taking my case to CBC go public and post all the pics I have from the construction on social media so people can learn more about the kind of situation they may get into and be careful while dealing with any builders.
