Sundeck

This is one of the worst companies we have had to deal with.
We made a deposit back in June. We were originally told that it would take 3-4 weeks for them to come out and start the job. They didn't start the job until 7 weeks later. During the time, we called them several times and got different reasons (excuses) such as an installer's wife going a labour and the other getting a surgery. They always showed up without notifying us. After they took down our old deck, they didn't come for another 4 weeks. It was 14 weeks for them to come out and finish the job. We couldn't enjoy the deck the whole summer and when they finished, it was snowing. We thought about making a formal complaint through the Better Business Bureau but we decided not to do so until the job was done. Also, one of the installers didn't clean up after cutting the rails on the grass in our backyard. So, pieces of the metals were left on the grass and it was dangerous for our kids to play in the backyard with their bare feet.
This company has A+ rating with BBB and received consumer choice award. That's the reason why we chose this company but we have learned our lesson that it doesn't mean much.
We paid 50% of deposit in June and the job got finally done in October.
I would not recommend this company to anyone we know.

Approximate cost of services:
$5,000.00

Company Response

I take great pride in the work we do and make every attempt to satisfy every customer we have. We do assign a number to every job and do them in the order they come in. The only decks that sometimes do not go in order are decks that are over living space. If there is a threat of rain we do re schedule those. Jen suggests she signed up in June and this past June Calgary received record amounts of rain which eliminates our ability to install Duradek. The glues we use do not work on wet plywood. We had six weeks where the majority of the week it rained. Which obviously caused the delays. I am probably too honest to a fault and tell customer what my issues are, if I have one. If an installers wife is having complications with a pregnancy and unexpectedly went to the hospital, I inform the customer I need a day or two to arrange the schedule for a different installer to do the job. I wish I had unlimited resources when it comes to qualified Duradek installers. I have said in the past this would be the best job in the world if we had nice weather all year round. With the late start and the early winter this year we did manage to have a good year and many satisfied customers. I know in the end, I am sure ,Jen's deck looks awesome and will be every enjoyable for years to come.
