Excel Homes

Bought our new home from Excel homes in Walden, Calgary. It’s been 5 months (got possession in Nov 2019) and our garage floor and driveway already have huge cracks going all across the length and breadth. I am assuming the ongoing Excel Homes construction next door has caused this due to poor construction quality. I immediately complained this to excel but their response is that it’s normal even though 99/100 driveways in the Walden area have no cracks. The other 2 things you will frequently hear from them is that every home in different and it’s home owner damage. I am fed up of hearing this and would take immediate pictures and show them as it’s happening. But they won’t own this at all. I am attaching all pictures here showing the level of damage in 5 months and pictures of ongoing Excel Homes construction next door. Judge for yourself but would not recommend that you choose them for your next home building project.

The sales people were great, but once they had our money things started going downhill. Firstly, during our walkthrough before possession, there was serious oil panning in one of our bedrooms.. it was loud. The man said they wouldn't do anything about it because it was legal essentially. I did bring this up with warranty and they agreed it was actually pretty bad and fixed it. Next, a tile was chipped and they tried covering it up by filling the hole with a glue type substance. I only found it because the substance popped out when i was putting a sealant on it. Then the front step kept sinking and they tried blaming us for it. And it turns out they forgot to put a cement column on one side to hold it up right. Because of this, our wooden stairs detached from the porch... this they didn't replace or fix.. even though there is now cement all over them from when they fixed the step. They also didn't replace the grass they promised to replace after tearing it up to fix the step, and left a large broken wooden spike in the ground that we worked to pull out after it was apparent they weren't coming back. Also.. our cement walkway is deteriorating and we have only lived here for a year and a half. In regards to the wooden stairs and our grass.. we called weekly and sent numerous emails with no response from them. Now we are past the warranty period and I think they have just been ignoring us this whole time. The house and layout is very nice, but when we upgrade our home in the future.. I doubt we would buy from Excel again. Very disappointed in them.

Charla & the Excel Sales Team have been nothing short of amazing since the beginning of the home purchase process. Prior to building, we had heard several of horror stories from friends and family who dealt with builders, from finishes not being completed as expected, to possession timelines being pushed way past the originally promised date, and for substandard customer service.

This is the complete opposite of our experience with Excel Homes and their amazing staff. Charla and her team were always extremely friendly, and helpful. They kept us up to date on the progress of our home and sent us pictures via e-mail whenever we requested (we lived in Edmonton while our home was being built in Calgary). Her and her team always responded to our e-mails in a professional and timely manner.

The Excel team did a great job making us feel comfortable for the entire process, from the initial sale to post possession we have had a great experience with the entire team. We were provided with guidance from the Sales team when we were initially choosing our interior finishes, and if any concerns arose, we felt comfortable bringing them to the table and reassured that they would be taken care of. While our home was being built, we were contacted by a complimentary concierge service to ensure that utilities were coordinated prior to possession which alleviated a lot of stress and planning this ourselves from another city.

After we took possession of our new home, Excel maintained constant communication if/when any concerns arose and addressed them immediately. Not only were we provided with excellent customer service during the build, but we felt that this was extended to post possession as well.

To anyone who is considering purchasing a new home, I would strongly recommend checking out Excel Homes. They build beautiful homes and provide amazing service. We are extremely happy with our new home and are so very appreciative of the entire Excel team.

Michelle at the Heartland Sales Centre has been absolutely fantastic throughout the buying process and made every step as easy as possible! The level of service when checking in to see if we need any further assistance has been exemplary. From our first visit to Excel homes in Heartland at the start of January, we've been made to feel so welcome and already feel like we're part of the community!

Despite the current negative spotlight on Excel in Heartland, we feel strongly that we've selected the right home builder for our family and the service we'll get through to completion of the build, and indeed after the home is built, will be exceptional, as it has been to date. Being in the construction industry ourselves, we understand how the build process works and that deficiencies can occur, however, it's how the situation is remedied that makes the company stand out. We also have the added comfort knowing that our family members, who also built with Excel in Heartland in 2019 are extremely happy with their new home and have no issues or deficiencies to report so far.

The selection of lots and models available with Excel was second to none, we really feel there is a model to suit every family situation, and we loved the selection process all taking place at the sales center, which was amazing for a busy family with limited time available. The base level finishes and the upgrades available are all great quality and the selections available will lead to a fantastic looking home! We'd also like to point out how welcome we've been made to feel at all of the other Excel show homes throughout Calgary we've visited during our selection process, even when telling the sales professionals we are building in Cochrane and not their location. Leon at The Southport model in Symons Gate was fantastic, the sales team at Livingstone were great, as are the team in Savanna where the closest "Fleetwood" model home is located, and we've been to look there several times before and after deciding it was the perfect home layout for us!

We are looking forward to living through the build of our new home and look forward to working with more members of the Excel team in the coming months. Thanks again Michelle!

We are extremely happy with our purchase from Excel! Charla, Maci, and Rachel were all fantastic during the sales process! They ALWAYS answered our questions and made our vision of the home come to life.
The sales team, and the construction manager, Josip, were also fantastic during the build and possession process. We had a few items that needed to be fixed along the way and they always made it right.
Since being in the home for a few months, they all continue to keep our relationship alive. Josip is extremely responsive with any warranty questions and fixes.

We built our dream home last year with Excel in Midtown and we could not believe how easy the process was! We moved from out of province and chose everything from our floorplan to our lighting, flooring, countertops, and appliances all on Facetime. It only took an afternoon to have everything chosen and the contract signed with the Salesperson Emily.
We used Excel's mortgage broker Lorrie for our mortgage and she was awesome. Once she had all of paperwork we had our approval within hours of submitting everything!
On the day we took possession Excel made us feel welcome and at home. They had put a big bow on our door and a gift waiting for us (we loved the little touches)! We only had a few minor things to report in our walkthrough after possession (a couple of paint touch ups and a small scratch on our stove door) which were fixed that same week.
Thank you so much Emily, Jeff, Kevin, and Michelle for making our move across Canada so easy and for building us our beautiful home!

We bought with Excel homes in 2017 and have had water seeping through the framing into our living space. To this day it has not been fixed. In 2018 Black Toxic Mould was found and the levels were over 400,000pm3 in the basement and over 20,000pm3 on the main level Alberta Health Standards is 1000pm3. A remediation was completed in 2018, but since have had problems in 2019 and two weeks ago in 2020.

Hardwood floor very noisy .. didn’t fix the carpet on stairs properly... hood fan buttons not working properly.., didn’t paint the drywall after repairing that ... very cheap quality of hardwood ... the hardwood floor gets lot of scratches and marks ... fully dissatisfied with the excel homes products nd their services .... I suggest every one don’t buy home from excel homes co ..

I purchase a duplex at in Hillcrest and move in 2017 July, when is 1 year 4 months my kitchen sailing leak water no idea why is a new house. I talked to warrants services they can't find what is it and my second floor window is cracking not sure what and why. Today is 2019 Dec, I through this new home won't give problem. I am not sure if excel home can something about it.

Exceptional customer service from Maci and Charla with Excel homes in Mahogany. They have been such a pleasure to work with. Very knowledgeable, very timely and responsive on emails, follow up questions and making changes to the upgrades.

We had a great experience building with Excel, they kept us up to date on the progress of our home, any issues that we came across were dealt with very quickly and they made the entire process of buying a home easy and smooth.

We would not hesitate to build with them again!
