Main line replacement

Outstanding service provided by New Canadian. An example of what excellent customer service is.
I had an odd leak in my basement and called New Canadian. Frank was first to arrive and determine there was a clog, but would need a snake to determine cause, severity and how to fix it.
Steve then arrived with his camera to assess the damage and confirmed collapse of a small part of my very old clay pipe. After a very detailed and thorough explanation of the issue, he explained what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He was very pleasant to deal with.
They had two guys, Marcus and Max, at my house at 8 the next morning (this after Steve was at my house until 9 the night before) and immediately got to work. Very professional, very thorough, proposed new solutions and it looks like they did a very good job.
They showed me where there was some shoddy plumbing work from the previous homeowner and said they would correct it – they even installed a new toilet for me and bought better screws, etc. than what came with the toilet.
On the con side, my basement leads up to the kitchen and the kitchen to the rest of my house – the doorway from kitchen to house was left open (not tarped off) so my main floor was layered in dust. And while I appreciate them getting the job done in two days, I felt their boss was too hard on the guys as they spent 13+ hours at my house the second day with no lunches or breaks to finish the work. Marcus and Max were exhausted. I would have been perfectly fine with them coming back a third day to finish the job. When these guys are doing hard manual labour, they get tired quickly and when people are tired, mistakes can be made. They should have been allowed to call it a day after 9 or 10 hours max.
But that’s nitpicky stuff. They did an excellent job and I’d highly recommend them.

Leaky bathtub

Yves and Steve fixed the leak in my bathroom that had leaked through and threatened to wreck the ceiling area above my kitchen. Friendly, courteous and fast. Yves in particular was very helpful in sharing his expertise and explaining what was being done and why, which was very much appreciated. I will probably be calling them again soon to update my main shutoff valve as I now know how good the service is at New Canadian Drain & Plumbing.

Part Replacement of main sanitary line

Connected with Jocelyn finally and made a date for last Thursday to do the work. Boys were on time, the locate was fast and easy, and the coffee was hot. Now, I looked around and got some other quotes, and they're all about the same. This tells me it's not an uncommon problem, and that these firms can pretty much tell what needs to be done just by looking. But you can't know what's under there until you start digging - some jobs will go easily, some less so. I guess it all works out in the end, moneywise, so happy to pay the "going rate" as it were.

Well, I think mine was one of those jobs where things went a little tougher than normal. Getting through the driveway concrete was job one and that took almost a half day. Scribing the punch-out with a grinding blade wasn't sufficient, and they needed to call in a big gas-powered diamond blade to get things going. After that, it was pretty smooth I think, but the job went into Day Two. That was a Friday though, and the weather stayed good; everyone was relaxed and worked smoothly to get 'er done.

Nice to see safety culture and good safety behaviours followed through the job, too.

Backfill went quickly and the gravel top has settled only a little bit. We knew we'd need to patch this somehow ourselves, so looking for any reccos to get that done (?).

Pictures tell the tale here, from start to finish. Good crew, good clean-up, top-class attitude - fun to have these guys on the job.

$2,600.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Can't think of a whole lot really. Perhaps getting that BIG saw in first thing would've had everyone done by end of Day One? Who knows. I'm happy with what I got and the crew worked well and safely, and that's improtant to me.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Always get a couple of quotes and talk to your neighbours or others having this kind of work done. With competitive quotes (as they were for this work) it might come down to who is the crew that gets along with each other and with you best. Maybe that's the one to go with. These guys had a good rythmn and rapport with each other and with me.

Main Drain back-up into the basement - HELP!

Home from a vacation - laundry, showers, life re-starts. Seemed our drain line had other ideas and we were on the phone at 8pm, Labour Day Monday. First to the City. They came out pretty quick in fact but declined to help. (Their tree sits 10 ft away and we've seen this before, but the City needed a clear determination before they'd do a thing.... OK, fine, but credit to the fellow for coming out quickly on a holiday). So, the next call was to New Canadian - the one with the kid on the trucks!! By this time, it's 10pm. Tech (Jocelyn) was here within in the hour and we were back in business an hour later. Above and beyond the call I should add. A real pro who figured out the problem quickly, but solving it required a couple of snakes - one inside the house at the stack - then a look-see with the camera. Sure enough, the fix we needed, but just temporary. We'll hopefully be having New Canadian back to do the full job as soon as we can. Clean, tidy, polite, took the money and very well-earned it was. Let you know how Part II goes...!

Clogged basement main drain

About a month ago we woke up to a flooded basement that occurred after torrential rain. New Canadian Drain had someone at our door in a few hours of our call. Steve assessed our situation and recommended using a camera so that we could see what was causing the clog. The camera also acted as a snake to clear our drain. Amazingly we saw that a tree root had grown into our main line! Thanks Steve for suggesting the camera. Otherwise our drain would keep clogging and we would never know why. Fair price and quick response time. I highly recommend Canadian Drain and Plumbing.

Washroom Vent, Drain, Supply

I was building a new washroom in the basement with no allocated plumbing so I called New Canadian Drain & Plumbing to route new lines and tie into my existing drains and supply for a shower, vanity, and toilet. The plumbers that came to my residence were on time, clean, professional, and knowledgable. I was glad to see that they came prepared with the right materials and the right mindset. The job was done efficiently, clean and right. Personally, I like to work with people that take pride in their work, it gives me peace of mind in knowing that the job was done right.
