installation of wood stove insert

After last December's ice storm, I decided a wood stove insert in our traditional inefficient fireplace would be a good idea.
My wife and I visited Marsh's store and got a quote for a wood stove insert and its installation. Normally, i would get one or two other quotes for the same product/service but for whatever reason, I just decided to go ahead with the single quote. After I relay some of the challenges that arose during this project, and how well those challenges were handled, you will understand why I feel like we got very lucky.
Two technicians arrived at our home and proceded to install the stainless steel liner in the chimney and install the stove insert into the fireplace. Unfortunately, while trying to separate the original fireplace damper from the original, the header peice of the granite surround was cracked. Marsh's asked me if I could find a replacement piece of the original granite, and they would re-install the replacement granite piece and then complete the installation.
A week or so later when the original cracked granite header was removed, the lead technician was shocked by the lack of a proper brick layer above the original firebox. In fact, the rubble that was in place of the proper specification of brick (just under 8 inches think) was essentially only some sort of plaster and was so thin in places that the light of a flashlight could be seen on the other side of it. Also the inside of the mantel was charred, indicating that at some point in the past, we almost had a fire! At this point, I suppose Marsh's could have walked away, but they removed the mantel and offered to build the proper thickness of brick above the fireplace, if I paid for the granite. I readily agreed. A week later they were back and built the proper brick array above the original firebox and the following week, after the brick mortar was cured, they returned to e-install the mantel and re-install the granite header and complete the installation of the wood stove insert. They didn't charge me anything extra for their extra efforts. These guys are definitely Home Stars. They are very competent and very friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants the best service for installation of any stove, wood or gas.
