Condo Purchase - NIGHTMARE

You may want to rethink if you're looking into KAITLIN GROUP homes...

I took possession of the condo August 2013 with many things left unfinished (typical for new build). My issue is not with the kitchen tile incomplete or the hardwood flooring incomplete or even a $2500 upgrade which was COMPLETELY missed. My issue is the constant fight I have to put up to get it fixed properly.

The wall...oh the wall! The missing $2500 upgrade, which would cost maybe $500 if I had someone outside of the corporation do it, was a complete NIGHTMARE. The upgrade was to put backing in the wall to securely mount a tv. Lets just say their first fix was a cheap piece of chipboard which would not securely mount 2 TVs (bedroom/livingroom are the same wall). And to think I paid $2500 for this...insane. So after a lot of emails and phone calls back and forth, I finally had the VP of Kaitlin Corp agree to fix the wall....3 weeks later than originally advised!

The kitchen tile had drill marks in one (my guess from someone not measuring the counter properly) and part was left incomplete with a gap between the tiles and baseboard. Kaitlin’s fix...GROUT! Yep looked amazing! I complained and they came back to fix it. Replaced the tile and finished the tile to the baseboard. It amazes me that they didn't do this in the first place.

Next issue, Kaitlin Group has written off as sufficient. I have pipes that rattle in the walls when my shower or my neighbours shower is on in the BEDROOM. Took 3 visits from Kaitlin Group for them to finally "hear the rattling". Conveniently the third visit someone was present at the time of the inspection. This issue has been closed by Kaitlin, no fix. My guess is the pipes are not secure in the wall....but what do I know!

Now, a really easy fix...the toilet. When flushed the water continues to run. To preserve my water bill I turn the water off when it's not in use. I had someone enter the condo to inspect the toilet and all was deemed to be "working fine". I went home, let the toilet run for 20 minutes before turning the water off. Hmm...did the contractor think to turn the water on when he inspected the toilet?

Finally, dealing with the customer service reps has been painful. I am currently on the 3rd customer service rep since August 2013 (clearly this speaks volumes)...They are extremely rude and have no idea what customer service means.

Approximate cost of services:
$1.00
