7/10

I had the same experience -- and technician -- as Peter in Etobicoke. I signed up for the NewsTalk 1010 special in the fall -- furnace servicing for $11.10. The service was scheduled for February, due to delays caused by some work we were doing in the house. Not long after arriving, Joe was telling us that we needed a new heat exchanger, and that for the price of changing that part, we might as well get a new furnace. We, thankfully, decided we wanted a 2nd opinion. However, Joe red-tagged our furnace, and left us in the cold. Two technicians later, the consensus was that they couldn't see a reason to red-tag the furnace, but they wouldn't put their own licenses on the line to remove the red tag without removing the heat exchanger and doing a full test -- at a cost of $250. We had no choice. Of course, the test showed that there's absolutely nothing wrong with our heat exhcnager, so the red tag can come off. Thus, our $11 service ended up costing us a whole lot more. UPDATE: following the posting of this review, I contacted Bosco to ask them to make this situation right. The lady who took the call was very professional and sympathetic; she took the details and said she'd have the HVAC manager, Roy, call me back. She gave me a reasonable timeline, and I actually received the return call earlier than expected. When I spoke with Roy, he immediately offered to make the situation right, and has sent us a cheque for the cost of the test we had to pay for in order to have the red tag removed. While I obviously am quite unhappy that we were put in this situation in the first place, in the end, I am very satisfied with how the company responded once notified about it.

Approximate cost of services:
$11.00
