10/10

We did our due diligence to select a company to install new hardwood floor in the kitchen and hallway. We obtained quotes from several suppliers but it was obvious with all the 'caveats' provided, they weren't confident in the installation and wanted us to assume the risk for everything. We live in a 90+ year old North Toronto house with some challenges: in the kitchen, layers of 'historical' wood & vinyl flooring in kitchen; in the hall-way; original hardwood (in rough shape)covered with plywood; covered with vinyl, covered with more wood, and then covered with carpet; adjoing entrances to dining room & living (including transitions) with original hardwood, in good, shape, plus some tile in the front door entrance. And we have original 7+ inch baseboard, plaster/lath walls which aren't straight. Since we were disappointed with the quality of the floor installers we contacted, we requested a recommendation from our our realtor and was given the Flooring Shop in Leaside. All aspects of the project cycle were outstanding from: initial sales contact & in home inspection; product selection in the store; pre-install discussion and scope of work clarification, risk identification and mitigation strategy, and excellent communciations (thanks Andrew). I very much appreciated the convenience of using emai c/w photos to provide reference for discussions to 'fine tune' the installation details. The overall installation was well co-ordinated to meet our specific needs as we had to fit the floor install in between other contractors. All the upfront work and process was excellent but when it came time and if all this wasn't enough, the Installation crew was outstanding. My wife, who was home for the day, couldn't say enough good things about these guys. Professional & courteous, competent, and extremely focused to get the job done in one long day. I arrived home near the completion of the job and was overwhelmed by the change in apperance of our house, with excellent product (Canadian maple flooring) and upon close inspection, the outstanding quality of the workmanship. In terms of contract close out, no surprises, no surprise extras, no fuss, no issues. As a disclaimer, I do not work for the Floor Shop or will recieve any consideration for my review (darn) but I'm very enthusiastic to endorse good work when I see it. We're 1/2 way through our house reno. First the re-wiring; then some foundation repair; new kitchen arrives next week (that's why the floor is installed now) so we've been living through a variety of Trade product and services. Our experience with the Floor Shop was that good and it is in such stark contrast to the horror show we just experienced with the window installation gone terribly bad (but that's another review). My suggestion would be to definitely give the Floor Shop the opportunity to get your business. We were not disappointed.
