3/10

Home time electrical had don work for me before and I was satisfied so I called them up again. I was told it would be about 1/2 day and would cost $1000 plus material over the phone. The Job was done in 1/2 day but was charged $1500 for labor. The job was well done but I was not impressed with the unjustifiable price change.

Approximate cost of services:
$2,000.00

Company Response

Firstly, you were an existing customer who had given us prior work. Thank you for that. You were very pleased with us, and also extremely grateful for our thoroughness which most likely saved your home from burning down (while doing other wiring, we noticed a 3” framing nail piercing a 3/14 wire and repaired/re-wired it immediately).

Secondly, for this most recent Pot-Light job, you had initially called over the phone for an Estimate only. Our 30 second, over the phone, approximate, Estimate Only, was 1000$ + Materials + ESA Inspection + HST. You said that seemed very fair and told us we might as well come do an on-site Quote.

Thirdly, when we arrived for the scheduled on site Quote, we realized the work involved and work conditions were more than described over the phone. 1) We thought the kitchen renovation was in “rough-in” stage, when in fact the kitchen was 100% finished. The granite counter-tops were all installed, the Italian Ceramic floor was installed, the hardwood cupboards and doors were installed, etc. This meant we had to be much more careful and cautious. 2) The ceiling height was higher than standard. Your ceilings are 9’6”, which would make the job somewhat harder and slower than a standard 8’ ceiling. 3) Some of the pot-lights were to be installed in the attic portions of the kitchen ceiling which was hard to access and required more time. 4) The 3 expensive pendant lights to be installed were very awkward due to the size and width of the granite island counter. 5) You had purchased the wrong old style pot-lights and we had to pick-up and provide the proper type IC LED pot-lights and LED dimmers.

Fourthly, all these conditions, and more, are why the Quote was 1500$ Travel and Labour, + Materials, + ESA Inspection, + HST. You thought about it for 2 minutes, you called your wife for 2 minutes, and you shook my hand and gave me the job!

Fifthly, the job turned out great! All the pot-lights were perfectly aligned and laid-out according to your wife’s plans and your Interior Decorators plans, the Pendants looked amazing over the Island, all the dimmers were installed and everything was done without a single scratch or error.

And finally, you claim it only took two licensed electricians half a day (which is 4 hours for most people working a full time job) to do All the purchasing and material pick-up, All the travelling, All the setting-up and drop sheets, All the work, All the installations, All the clean-up and everything else in between. That couldn’t be further from the truth…
When the job was done, and we presented you with the invoice, You and your Wife seemed very happy. You wrote us a cheque for the full amount, you thanked us, you shook our hands, you wished us well, and off we went. As far as we were concerned, it was another job-well-done for a price that was justified and reflected the home and job conditions and expectations.
I was very shocked, very saddened, and very disappointed when I logged-on to Home Stars and saw the review you gave us… 2 stars out of 10… I understand you were hoping the price was going to be 1000$ like the over-the-phone Estimate Only, but you agreed to the Quote of 1500$ and gave us the job. This is a stab in the back. No matter whom it is, what the trade is, or the work involved, if someone, anyone, gives you a quote, and you hire them, pay them, and then give them a horrible review, that is lowest and dirtiest insult possible. Especially considering the fact the job was done perfectly, without any problems, and the fact you paid us, shook our hands, thanked us, cheque cleared, etc…
Never the less, I will still say thank you for the work. We gave you a quote, you gave us the job, we did the job, you paid us in full, and all is appreciated. It’s just the horrible 2 out of 10 review that really is insulting especially after you appearing to be so happy and grateful at one end, and then on the keyboard at the other end, you have a totally different opinion of us and the job done. Thanks.
