I purchased an American Standard Furnace and AC from Air Tech West in October of 2006 (it is now May '07). The quote was very competitive and I was certain of the brand name already (it is a re-badged Trane unit..VERY SATISFIED!) The installers took longer than expected and almost cost me $100 in having a re-inspection by enbridge (thanks to the inspector for hanging around for 2 hours). The electrical to the furnace was wired NOT to the fusebox, but tapped off an outlet! It took 3 phone calls and 2 weeks to get them to react to this blatant breach of code. The installation is ugly, the drain line was (and still is) drooped across my floor to the drain as they were too cheap to trench my basement floor and properly run it underfloor. They forgot the AC cover and it took 5 more phone calls to get it even AFTER it had begun snowing. They improperly installed the gas line (read: small gas leak)and got my installation red tagged by TSSA. Oh and they really messed up the rebate forms, forgetting to get me the credits for my thermostat and for all other equipment, they put the wrong make / models on the form which delayed my rebate. Don't go with these people, I LOVE the system but the service is poor and they aren't worth the small difference in price.

Approximate cost of services:
$7,600.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
I would recommend Applewood Heating or Tropical Heating and Air Conditioning. They've done the clean up work and have been great

We contracted MTC to do a complete renovation and remodelling of our tiny (5' x 8') bathroom from circa 1973. The quote given to us by Paul was fine and he seemed receptive to ourdesign and material preferences and wasn't bent on 'upselling' us beyond our budget. The entire project was to take a 5-7 days, but they told us it MAY take up to 10. Admittedly we had issues from RONA on a solid surface countertop..but thats another story. The tearout was done badly and several deep and irreperable gauges were left in the recently refinished hardwood floors upstairs (compensation offered = $0). The new shower and tub took 7 days to get in, and the tiling job was SO bad, they had to DEMOLISH the whole bathroom (floor and all) to start again! I HAVE PHOTO PROOF! It was finally installed, but they used some sort of indellible markser on the porous tile for cutting, so I have permanent marks on some of the tiles in the shower, but I was too desperate to get my bathroom back, I didn't want a 3rd tearout. It took over 6 months to get this bathroom workable and they had the audacity to ask for full payment! Oh, and the toilet isn't level, it rocks and leaks around the base (hidden by clear caulking). Oh, and the tub has a half bubble tilt towards the room so when you shower, the floor gets wet. I have a folder an inch think on failed communications, mistakes and damages from these folks...Incompetant is the mildest word I can think of.
