Basement renovations are not easy. Basement renovations in an older home is even harder. If you still want to go through with it, I would recommend Sonoma Contracting. Mike is very reliable, professional and honest. These traits are essential to look for in a contractor. My renovation started in January and was completed in May. There were many different issues that I wasn’t expecting (need for engineering drawings, need for in floor heating drawings, need for a heating permit, staircase issues, unanticipated collateral damage on the main floor due to the supporting beam(wall cracks/floor unevenness/door not closing properly), heating issues on the main floor with the addition of the infloor heating). Through all this Mike and Aldo were there to advise and educate me and to smooth things out , so in the end I was pleased with the end result and I have a beautiful, functional basement . My father who is very critical didn’t have a bad thing to say! The only negative thing I can say is that I wish that I was given a heads up about potential issues but Mike says that some of these were unforeseen and that some were due to inconsistencies in the permit/inspection process.

If you want a insulation job done well, call Affordable Insulation. Sid and his team were true professionals from start to finish. At the initial free estimate visit, they inspected my attic fully and took the time to educate me and answer all my questions (some companies don't even look at your attic before the install). During the actual visit, they spent along time preparing for the insulation (some companies just whip out the hose). So some other companies may give you a lower price, but you get what you pay for.As for me, I just want it done right the first time. Sid and his team did extra work for me as well. They rerouted my bathroom vent to the outside and insulated it (this was done incorrectly previously- leading to condensation problems in my bathroom)as well as doing some drywall repair due to the condensation problem. These were all done well.Sid also advised me to get rid of the one remaining knob and tube wire in the attic which would be a fire hazard. So as you can see, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Affordable Insulation.
