Waited a month for them to show up to install the eavestrough. Once the job was completed there was no follow-up, until they wanted the bill paid.(3 weeks later)The crew partially cut some tree limbs to install eavestrough and didn't remove the limbs. They left them hanging from the tree. I phoned to see if they were going to have them removed, but I had paid bill already, so didn't hear back from Sunik. I also didn't give any permission to cut the limbs, and hope that the trees don't die this winter. I had asked the crew to leave some of the old eavestrough in my backyard, but this wasn't done. I inquired about this, and was told I could come by their dumpster, and pick some up. I was initially going to get them to replace my roof (a $15000 job) but was glad that I went with another company to do this. Their prices were the same, but the warranty was 5 times longer with the other company. I certainly would not recommend this company to any of my friends. They could learn some things from the competition. It took me writing a review on HomeStars to get a response from this company. I am still waiting for any action to occur for the follow up promises that have been made from Sunik Roofing. It has been 3 months since your reply, and statement that "he is anxious to make this up to you". I guess he is not as anxious as me to get this rectified! I find it hard to believe that in a city of over 1 million people, that an arborist can not be found to take care of the mess that you people left behind. Now that the snow is gone, I am also picking up screws and eavestrough nails that were left behind. Your company is all talk and no action. Please don't insult my intelligence by making more empty service promises. All I ask is that you properly finish the job that I paid for!

Company Response

Hello Brent,

I understand that we have now completed the job to you satisfaction trees & Trough looked after

Thank you for the review, at Sunik we welcome all feedback. When comparing warrantees it is important to look at the CONTENT of the Warranty. With a Sunik Warranty we cover all damages including interior, if the leak is caused by poor workmanship. Our warranty can be extended for up to 10 years. After two years we offer to inspect your roof and maintain it for a small fee. Our warranty is very simple with very few exclusions, or ways to get out of our commitment. We are in our 26th year & have never had an issue honouring our warranty.

For example, Sunik has no exclusion for the amount of the damage we will cover. We carry a 2 million dollar insurance policy, for larger jobs we get a rider from our insurance company and insure the entire amount of the building's value.

You said your replacement roof is worth $15,000. If the company you chose stated in their warranty “The maximum liability is the total paid under service contract ". $15,000 is the maximum you can receive. Think of what your house is worth and all that is in it. 15k is a fraction of that. Accidents and leaks do happen, 2 years ago a reputable Calgary roofing company collapsed a roof.

Sunik offers to maintain your roof however, if the company you chose stated in their warranty 'it is up to you to maintain your roof', this puts the burden of proof of maintenance on you should you have a claim.

Most companies do not want to maintain a roof done by their competitor so it could be a challenge to find a reputable company to do the roof maintenance at a reasonable cost.

I apologize for not making it clear and getting your approval to cut your trees. The trees branches were in contact with the eavestroughs, and it was necessary for them to be moved / trimmed, but our estimator should have made that clear to you. Sunik will be happy to pick up the cost to have a reputable arborist come and repair your trees.

The eavestrough we removed were fastened with spikes making it impossible to salvage them. If you would still like some lengths of eavestroughing to use, we’d be happy to provide you with some new lengths free of charge for the small project you had in mind . Just let us know how much you’d like & we can happily have them delivered.

I checked into our records which show that you called in Nov.7th about the trees and the slope of garage trough, I also have a note from our trougher, which states he went to your house Nov 8th and corrected 2 lengths of trough, one at the garage and one at the front of the house due to these being sloped incorrectly . He told me he could not pick out the broken branches. Also there was no one home to confer with.

Marcus takes pride and is exceptional in regards to keeping his customers informed. He believes that he contacted you, but can not say for certain so it is quite possible he dropped the ball on a follow up to inform you that we had indeed re-sloped the trough Nov 8. I hope you can forgive him as he is a very competent certified journeymen estimator. I know he is anxious to make this up to you, he will be giving you a call shortly to ensure you are happy with the work and to see if there is anything else he can do to correct the situation.
