They tore down my old chimney down to the shingles and rebuilt it. The other one was 80 years old and close to my neighbour’s chimney. It seems to be good from the bottom floor, it draws well when fires are lit. The one thing that concerned me was I wasn’t sure whom I was hiring; there was quite a bit of ambiguity around them. I looked them up online and found their number. The internet said they’ve been working for 30- 40 years on chimneys and after I signed an agreement I mentioned they had worked on my neighbors home and had some questions and they said “well that’s a different Townshend,” it sounds like a family company that had a separation of the ways. I’m not necessarily dissatisfied, time will tell. Call me in ten years, see if my chimneys leaking. Afterwards the chimney was complete I had the roof done and asked the installer about they chimney work that had been done (since they were up there and could see) the roofer said “they did an okay job,” didn’t rave about it. Still I don’t really have any complaints about their work. I’d recommend getting in touch with both Townshends and then deciding.

Company Response

Thanks Jamie. Yes we always make sure that everyone knows that we are Townshend Chimney not Walter Townshend and sons. We all stem from the original Townshend Grandfather and my father Jack built chimney for over 60 yrs. We just keep going into the next generations as time goes on. You did mention about a complaint the neighbour had about bricks laying on the roof and I did make sure that you knew that was not our company and directed you to who it was just to make sure you knew it was not our company. Sorry for the fact you were confused but there are so many companys out there. I always say get lots of quotes and friend/family referrals then decide from there . I must say that majority of the time the customers still decide to go with us even after numerous quotes in hand... My father Jack actually did build many of the chimneys in your area. He along with his father were some of the biggest chimney men in the business. Thanks. Jen.
