I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share an alarming experience I have had with Metro Wide Paving Inc, a local paving company. It is of utmost importance to expose their unprofessional conduct, poor service, and lack of accountability to ensure that other consumers are aware of the risks associated with hiring them. This issue sheds light on a broader problem within the Canadian service market, where consumer rights often go unprotected, leaving consumers at a disadvantage in various industries, including house services, car services, and dental services. In my personal encounter with Metro Wide Paving Inc, I have experienced firsthand the challenges faced by consumers when trying to safeguard their interests. Despite numerous attempts to address the issues I encountered, I have been met with dismissive attitudes and inadequate resolutions. This highlights the power imbalance between service providers and consumers, leaving the latter vulnerable and without effective means of protection. The prevailing "forest rule" mentality in the Canadian service market is deeply concerning. Consumers, who should be the primary beneficiaries of these services, are often left in the lurch when disputes arise. As a result, there is a pressing need to advocate for consumer rights and establish mechanisms that ensure fair treatment, accountability, and the provision of quality services. The Four Season Lake Problem: One of the main issues I encountered with Metro Wide Paving Inc is the persistent problem of standing water in front of my driveway. Despite Joe's initial agreement to address this issue, no action was taken during the one-year warranty period. Whenever it rains, a small lake forms in front of my driveway, making it extremely inconvenient for walking and potentially hazardous for winter ice. I invite anyone considering hiring this company to visit my driveway and witness the ongoing problem for themselves. The Garage End Flooding Risk: The garage end of the driveway has been paved much lower than it was originally. This lower elevation creates a significant risk of flooding when heavy rain occurs. The workers did not use proper machinery to compress this part of the driveway, resulting in a noticeably soft surface. Due to this concern, we have refrained from parking our cars in the garage to prevent exacerbating the issue. Unfortunately, during a recent heavy rainstorm, a few drops of rainwater managed to seep into the garage, accumulating up to two meters deep beneath the roof. Tree Tank Elevation Issue: I explicitly communicated my concern about the excessive height of the edge brick near the tree tank to Metro Wide Paving Inc prior to the paving process. However, they disregarded my input and proceeded to install the asphalt at an elevated level. The workers, who happen to be family members of Joe, provided a false explanation, claiming it was done to prevent dirt from escaping the tree tank. This reasoning is untrue. In reality, they used a base line to mark the border with the neighboring property, resulting in uneven levels. During the removal of the old asphalt, they simply followed the line without considering the need for a consistent level. The result is, this part of the driveway is higher than the garage entry. I encourage readers to visit my garage and witness the subpar workmanship firsthand. Lack of Accountability: I have made multiple requests via email to Mr. Jeo, who expressed a preference for phone conversations. However, he tends to make promises during these phone calls and later denies or disregards them. It is evident that his words cannot be relied upon. I kindly request your support in advocating for consumer rights and sharing my experience as a cautionary tale. While I am not yet exposing the email correspondences, I am willing to provide additional information, interviews, or any necessary support to contribute to this important discussion. Together, we can initiate positive change that benefits all Canadian consumers. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I eagerly await your response and the potential opportunity to share my experience and insights with a wider audience. Sincerely, Sihai Chen

Company Response

Hi Sihai,

We have been present in communication throughout the whole process. We made efforts to visit the property and address any possible deficiencies. You did not grant us the opportunity to do so. We have emails to prove as such and wish we were able to post them here.

This slight on our company is unfounded and unfair.

Sincerely
Metro Wide Paving
