Scott, of Summers & Smith was a life saver for us. We had purchased a dual fuel range to replace an old electric one we had had for many years. We had a gas outlet in the kitchen from the original builder and thought it would be no problem to hook up the new range to the outlet. However, we didn’t realize until the machine was delivered that our new range had a cover in the middle of its rear which limited the optimal locations for the gas pipe to be run along the left side of the wall and the electric cord along the right side. However, on our wall, both outlets were centred. A previous contractor had suggested that the only way we could make the current set-up work was to relocate our gas outlet to the left of the wall and use an electrician to move the 240V electric outlet to the right.

Scott was extremely positive in all his dealings with us. Always smiling and always showing empathy for potential issues that arose. He was also very creative. He had the idea to lower the gas outlet without using any new materials, instead of moving it, and he was also able to flip the electric outlet 180 degrees so that it wasn’t in the way of the gas valve. This way both the gas line and the electric cord could be snaked below the middle cover and weren’t in the way of one another. His solution also allowed the entire range to be pushed flush against the wall. He did a great job for us, in a short time, with minimal materials, and because we didn’t have to call an electrician we saved a lot of money.
We also had Scott clean our two fireplaces that same morning. He was very efficient and responsible. As he was putting together the invoice, he noticed that the glass door on one of the fireplaces had become a bit cloudy again. He immediately disassembled the door and cleaned it a second time without charging us for the extra time. He was very thoughtful, knowledgeable and thorough. He was also very customer oriented and thought outside the box, saving us both time and money.

When Summers and Smith makes appointments it has been our experience that they keep to the promised time as close as possible, which we appreciate because we generally have to take

time off from work for these visits. When it came time for the install, Carlos and Andrew the installers, were here on time. They were very conscientious in their work, taking care not to leave our home a mess. The install work is very professional looking as well. I do maintenance work for a living, and appreciate the attention to detail and professional care they take doing their job.
I would not hesitate to use Summers and Smith again as needed. I also would recommend them to anyone needing any home heating or cooling work done.

In the middle of this summers heat wave, our 35 (original) year old system died! We needed a complete new system & fast. We knew it was going to be expensive. We had been experiencing issues with our humidifier leaking. Our previous service providers had proposed a very expensive and intrusive solution to fix the problem.
Brian from Summer & Smith was able to provide an alternative solution to our problem for a MUCH lower cost. He assessed the issue and managed the process. He was very confident with what he was proposing and was successful with the repair. He checked our entire system and made changes and suggestions to increase the efficiency of our system.

We have been thrilled with all three jobs Brian has done for us! He replaced our AC, serviced our furnace, and most recently fixed the sensor on our hot water tank. Working with John for the quota and minor design changes was great as he's done lots of retrofits and knows what works and doesn't. Having Ryan and his crew doing the install, couldn't have asked for a better crew. The guys really cared about their work and the final product. Definitely recommend for new install or a retrofit.

This is the second excellent major repair experience we've had with Summers & Smith. Nine years years ago we were impressed that the gal on the switchboard knew that the heat exchanger on our fourteen year old gas furnace still had a year left on its warranty. $300 for labour back then was a great savings in comparison to $2,700 for a whole new furnace which our previous service company insisted was required. Most recently, S&S's very talented Scott Walker provided knowledgeable, very competent, speedy and friendly service to replace a defective thermocouple in our gas hot water tank. We have no hesitation at all in recommending Summers and Smith to other homeowners.

We purchased a house in June 2015 that had a boiler system installed by Summers and Smith in 2010. We had some construction work on the house done after we moved in and they needed to move radiators as a result. The system shut down in January 2016 on one of the coldest days of the year. Summer and Smith came in to look at the issue. The Technician Mike G. preceded to tell us how the system had not been installed properly and had to be "completely re-piped" to fix the issue. He also 'tagged' us with a very minor deficiency so we couldn't start our system again. This did not sound right to me, as it was only installed 5 years ago and it had been his company that installed it! He wanted to charge us over $1500 to do this "repair". I decided to get a second opinion from another company. They sent a master technician within two hours of my call. He said the system was fine and all we had to do was bleed the rads properly to fix the problem. After our contractor did this, as well as put the 2 ft plastic pipe that was the "deficiency" and the system worked fine. All it cost us was the visit from the other company. Well worth the money. From our perspective, Summers and Smith were going to make us pay over $1500 to fix a problem on a system they installed in the first place, and a repair that didn't even need to be done. We felt totally taken by this company.
