The owner of Merry Maids (Evans Ave in Etobicoke) came and assessed my house and gave me a price. The maids came and rushed through my house giving it a lick & a promise. I was dissatisfied with the quality of the cleaning. I called the office to complain. Debbie came out and made all sorts of excuses blaming circumstances (short staffed) and me (too picky- believe me I'm not- wouldn't anyone expect their refrigerator door handle to be wiped clean?). She refused to honor their re-cleaning guarantee and told me that various items that were posted on their website as being part of their cleaning process (e.g., wiping down kitchen cabinets) were actually not included. She then tried to pull a bait and switch, telling me the original estimate had not been high enough and hiking the cost by 30%. Various other aspects of their services had also been misrepresented to me when I had originally signed up. When I complained to the owner, I was told that they would honor the original price, but if I expressed any dissatisfaction with the quality of the cleaning, they would have to raise the price- which was already $50/hour (nearly $150 for a 1.5 hour cleaning by 2 people).
