Did NOT complete Job but collected 90% of the price quoted and ghosted me

Contracted Raffael to do a PentHouse of 2000 square feet. Certain sections of the place. The project was divided in two segments. The second segment which was a fireplace and the wall it was on, was left for after the stone was installed. This was the only complicated part.

Raffael completed the first portion but asked to collect 4700$ of the funds. He made a trustworthy impression so i released the funds without assessing what the remainder of the job would cost relatively. It costs around 1400$ as I had to get another contractor to come and finish it, but Raffael collected all but 600$ of the quoted price.

He answered back a few times. Delayed me for a month and then ghosted me under the pretext that he has other projects and is too busy.

i did a deal for a complete job for him. if he just did section one and not section two, that means he over collected and broke his word. I had to have my other contractor come and fix it.

he makes a trustworthy impression, but I would not trust him again. He broke his own word. i have it in messages. there is no arguement here, he just ghosted because I made the mistake of keeping too little deposit for him to come finish the job.

I posted the last messages and his lack of response for you to have proof.

Approximate cost of services:
$5,300.00

Company Response

Hey Nima, thank you for writing us. Feedback good & bad allow us to help improve our customer service.

We pride ourselves on our excellent craftsmanship and our customer service, henceforth our other 73 reviews (10/10).

The title of this review is a bit misleading & requires further clarification. Also, "ghosting" is a complete fallacy.

What the Client has not mentioned is that over 98% of the condo HAS been completed. All the areas that were ready have all been done.

* Important to note - client has had no issue with the work itself as it was done very well, in a timely manner and very clean.

The painting and spray work was completed in excellent quality satisfaction. The only item that was outstanding was 1 area that was delayed 3 weeks by another contractor.

As pictured, the client was waiting on another contractor to install tiles around his fireplace. It was our job to come in and spray the fireplace that is currently black and change the colour to white.

What the client fails to mention, is the complications that had occurred with his installation - requiring to push back the timeline (20 days). To add, the installation was very poor, so much so the corners all have to be redone. A different job than the one that we agreed to - requiring at least another day to the job- which we were going to absolve *

Truth be told, originally I was very fond of the client. Young gentleman that is very personable. As work began, he decided to add more items to the scope ( extra rooms / 3-D feature walls to be sprayed etc) as he was very happy w the quality of the work itself.

When we price out our jobs, we itemize every scope. Each room, each area has a price. The price to spray the fireplace was $300 as outlined. Upon completing everything that was ready, he decided to hold back 600$, we had no problem as we had every intention of coming back.

Our team consists of six painters that specialize in high end custom work for builders .When we are on a project, we start and finish that project before moving on. Should there be a delay that requires us to come back, we most certainly will - however if it was an unplanned delay ,and we are in the middle of another project, our current project must be completed before going to another one.

This clients issue was that we did not get back to his project in his desired time frame after his delay.
